Based in the stunning setting of the Precincts of Canterbury Cathedral and St Augustine’s Abbey – a World Heritage Site – The King’s School is one of the oldest and most prestigious Schools in the country with an enviable record of academic excellence and achievement.

The King’s School requires a Director of Finance to (working alongside the Bursar) have overall responsibility for financial management and control of the School, its trading companies, trusts, charities and investments. Key responsibilities of the role include (a full list of responsibilities is included in the Job Specification document):

  • Maintain and develop the Strategic 10 Year Financial Place in line with the School’s objectives.
  • Co-ordination of the Annual Budget, periodic forecasts, including significant financial modelling.
  • Ensuring compliance with all tax and charity rules.
  • Overseeing the Schools Investments, currently managed by Sarasin & Partners LLP.
  • To ensure that the Bursar is provided with all financial information, reports and assistance necessary for the efficient and effective strategic financial management of the School.
  • Attend Governors Finance and General Purposes, Audit and Investment committee meetings and any other meetings as required by the Bursar and provide the first draft minutes.
  • Responsibility for Audit and adherence to financial regulations and good practice.

The post holder will work in close co-operation with the Bursar, the Deputy Bursar the Head and the Head of JKS, the SLT, Director of Operations, Premises Director, Director of Catering, Director of ICT, Business and International Director, Director of External Strategy and Director of Development.  The Director of Finance also has a day-to-day working relationship with departmental managers and budget holders and is required to co-operate fully with them.
