Co-ed Boarding- Do the benefits outweigh the risks?
Date: May 09, 2017
Why you should attend: Whereas previously a common feature of small Prep boarding schools, it is now increasingly common to find Co-ed boarding houses in senior schools; most notably at the 6th Form level. This workshop will explore some of the key challenges associated with managing such a House as well as the highlighting the benefits of providing such a community as part of the boarding experience for young people. This workshop will identify and share best practice in terms of management and marketing of senior school mixed boarding facilities.
- The physical organisation and internal segregation of a mixed facility and the unique issues associated with co-educational sleeping arrangements
- The day-to-day management of a mixed house, with a key focus on novel issues surrounding staffing and routines
- An exploration of the benefits brought to all stakeholders in the boarding school context, which in turn will inform any marketing strategy for what may be a new and different boarding product
- The induction of boarders new into a mixed house, and how to create an effective house ethos in such a co-educational setting.
