Why you should attend? Schools are increasingly aware of the importance of international markets to enhance their boarding community. This workshop will provide an opportunity to get an update on the wider issues associated with international boarding markets and how schools can prepare and engage their whole school team to make the most of the opportunities to recruit new boarders. Attendees will be able to gain a better understanding of how agents operate and how they can improve their in-house marketing and recruiting activities.

Donna Stevens, Head of Research, Independnet Schools Council

Donna leads the research team at the Independent Schools Council (“ISC”) delivering a number of research projects annually. The most well-known is probably the ISC Annual Census which is a vast data collection covering all 1,301 ISC schools and covering a range of topics from schools fees and bursaries to boarding pupil numbers and school partnerships. In addition, the research team commission and run in-house a number of research projects that inform key strategic decisions within the sector.

Prior to ISC Donna worked within the corporate sector for seven years conducting corporate research and advising a number of leading multinational organisations on their business strategies. More recently she has four years’ experience in the social sector working with organisations such as The Challenge Network and Action Tutoring. 

Donna attended a comprehensive school in South Wales then went on to study maths at Oxford University. She graduated in 2002.

Aileen Kane, Director of Operations, Boarding Schools’ Association

Aileen Kane leads BSA’s Marketing and Services Team, which oversees marketing, media, social media, print and digital publishing, events, sponsorship, advertising, finance, HR and facilities. She also has deputising responsibilities for the Chief Executive.

After nine years managing marketing and communications at two independent UK boarding schools, Aileen joined BSA as Head of Communications in March 2015. A business graduate, she worked as a head of international marketing in the beauty industry before entering the education sector. 

Aileen, who understands the issues and challenges facing the UK boarding sector, is a member of BSA’s senior leadership team. Through this she has additional responsibility for developing services for member schools in Scotland, and liaising with the government, local authorities and other agencies to find places for refugee children escaping from conflict countries. 

 

Andrew Lewin, Director of Training, Boarding Schools’ Association

Andrew Lewin, joined the BSA team as Director of Training in August 2017. He manages the Training and International Team within BSA and delivers the largest CPD programme to boarding staff in the world. Prior to joining BSA was the Director of Development at Sailsbury Cathedral School and is a former Head of three boarding schools

Born and brought up at Oundle School, where his father was Housemaster, Andrew has spent a lifetime in boarding. He has been an ISI Team Inspector and a Governor of an independent boarding school. He has also served on local safeguarding children's boards in North Yorkshire and Cheshire and has organised and delivered training for both local authorities and independent schools.

Nicola Lutz, Director, StudyTravel Ltd

Nicola Lutz has been bringing agents and schools together for over 20 years. This has involved a lot of coffee.

StudyTravel produces a Magazine and daily news site specifically for the agents in 7000+ agencies worldwide. Each includes a dedicated Secondary Focus section with reports and statistics to help our readers.

Also StudyTravel runs 11 agent-educator ST Alphe workshops including two specialising in the secondary/boarding sector.
