Eating disorders and associated emotional health issues

Why you should attend? The speaker will discuss how to detect students with an eating disorder based on presentation, appearance, attitude and behaviour. She will highlight your role as professionals working within boarding schools, with its own additional challenges and consider appropriate interventions, including key referral processes and parents/guardians involvement. 


The seminar will cover aspects you need to be mindful of when dealing with students who may have or are susceptible to eating disorders, including:

  • ​Danger signs
  • Causes
  • Side effects
  • Maintaining factors

​It will also address complications you could face when dealing with complex personality disorders like OCD.

In addition, the following practical consideration will be covered:

  • ​Health and safety considerations
  • Medication(s)
  • Any in/outpatient treatment involved
  • Shared care plan and child protection law

Speaker: Vathani Navasothy: Eating Disorder Specialist , Author & Trainer

Vathani,  with  her  27 years of  experience  is  a  featured  speaker at BSA,  trainer  and  workshop facilitator at conferences and live events on eating disorders and body image topics; including secondary school settings within the PSHE & sports curriculum. She is an author  of  CBT  Self-Help  book,  who  specialises  in  all  areas  of  eating  disorder treatment  and  a  high  profile  Webinar  Trainer,  broadcasting  via  the  Internet throughout the UK and internationally. Member & trainer at the National Centre for Eating  Disorders,  member  of  BACP  &  B-eat;  some  of  her  previous  partners  include  the  British Olympic Medical team and Optimus Education and currently organisations such as the LEA, private coaching sectors, RCN and NHS.
