Dean Close Preparatory School Equestrian Team have been getting out and about.

In the Lent half term they visited Allens Hill Equestrian Centre, firstly for a successful day's showjumping followed by a brilliant day of dressage. Pupils, Maddie Melville-Smith (age 10) and Corinna Clarkson (age 12) both secured qualification to the Grass Roots Show Jumping finals, Maddie in the 60cms and Corinna in the 75cms. Arthur Clarkson (age 10), on his debut for the team, jumped a great clear to finish in the top 10 of 22 riders in the 60cms at the same event.

The team returned to Allens Hill Equestrian Centre for the Grass Roots Dressage. Maddie had a fabulous day winning both her ‘Intro’ and ‘Prelim’ section qualifying for the finals. Fenella, on her debut for the dressage team, also won her ‘Intro’ section.

A special mention must go to Maddie who volunteered, at the last minute, to ride as part of the Senior Dressage team in the County Cup qualifiers at Kings Bromyard. Some of the senior horses and riders were unable to compete and Maddie stepped in riding an excellent test to secure a mark of 70+. This incredible score helped the team to take an overall win, qualifying them as the highest placed school in Gloucestershire and securing their place at the county cup finals. A proud day all round!
