Pairs Fencing and British Youth Championships Success
14th June 2019

A total of thirty-two fencers from nine schools and clubs took part in the Pairs Fencing event hosted by Bromsgrove held at Winterfold School on Sunday May 19th.

Four Pairs from Bromsgrove entered this event, which aims to teach competitive Pairs fencing in a friendly atmosphere. After 206 fights, Leo Boonnak and Oliver Gowan (Year 7) were placed first in their Pool in the Under 14 Foil, with George Ascough and Jasper Page (Year 6) Runners Up.

Amina Muldasheva and Priya Giles (Year 3 and 4) bravely fought against much older pupils to be placed 3rd in their Pool; a tremendous achievement for such young Fencers.

In the Over 14 Epée event, Artem Veprev and Yann Meister finished 3rd. This was Yann’s first competitive event, having only started Fencing at the start of the academic year. He was hugely supported and advised by Artem, who recently finished 29th in the U18 Boys Epée at the recent British Youth Championships earlier in the month, held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Three other Bromsgrove pupils qualified for the Championships this year; Tatiana Morikova came 27th in the U18 Girls’ Epée, Elsa Tsia was 44th in the U16 Girls and George Ascough 32nd in the U12 Boys.
