On Monday 17th June, Bromsgrove Prep School Athletics team qualified for the prestigious English Schools’ National Track and Field Cup Final by winning the Midland A Final at The Pingles Stadium, Nuneaton. The region comprised of teams from nine counties.
This is the third consecutive year that Bromsgrove has qualified for the National Final, something that no Bromsgrove Prep or Senior School has ever achieved before, which is a staggering achievement. This competition is open to every school in England and this year, over six hundred schools entered the Junior Boys’ competition.
With only one A Final to go nationwide, the School is ranked ninth in England from six hundred teams. Mr Gareth Jones, Head of Boys’ PE & Games said “we are delighted at how strong our athletics teams are this year - outside the county of Essex, we are ranked second in the country.”
The Year 7 & 8 Girls’ Athletics teams had many good performances, including 17.21m in the discus, 1.29m high jump and 7.52m in the shot put. In the track and hurdles events, the teams really excelled. By the end of the day, the girls totalled 352 points, which ranks them 3rd in the Region.
We look forward to hearing how they all get on at the All England National Final on Saturday 6th July in Chelmsford.
