Skiing success

Talented skiers at a Colwyn Bay school have qualified for a national championship event next month.

The Senior Girls’ squad at Rydal Penrhos School achieved the feat by at the Welsh Schools Championship, which was held at Llangrannog last weekend.

The team consisting of Lena Tschanhenz, Keira Bonnington, Sara Owen and Bella Rutherford – qualified by finishing second in the overall team standings, eight seconds behind eventual winners Eirias A.

There was even more success for Lana in the individual slalom, with her time of 19.67 seconds earning her a fourth place finish, and was just 0.6 seconds behind first.

Close behind was Keira, who recorded a time of 21.54 seconds to secure eighth position, with Bella (20th) and Sara (21st) ensuring all four girls finished in the top 25.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “We are delighted that the girls’ side has qualified for the British Schools Championships, and it is a testament to how hard they have worked to improve both their technique and speed.

“A huge congratulations goes to them and we hope they can have more success in Pontypool next month.”

The girls will now begin preparing for the British Schools Championships to be held at Pontypool Ski Slope on Sunday, November 22.
