A CRICKETING star at a Colwyn Bay school has been nominated for a major sporting award.
Will Sissons, a 15 year-old Rydal Panrhos pupil, has been nominated for Junior Sportsman of the Year at the Conwy Sports Awards, which take place on Friday, November 27.
It has been another great year of sporting achievement for Will, who earned Welsh under 14 squad selections last season, while also earning a spot at the Glamorgan Cricket Academy.
In addition to his cricketing success, Will is also an accomplished Fives player and has claimed a number of national competitions in what has been a dominant career to date.
Head of Cricket Mike Leach, said: “It has been another fantastic year for Will and this nomination is richly deserved.
“He is such a talented individual and is always looking to better himself, and his dedication is something is paying dividends both for the school, Glamorgan Academy and Wales.
“Talent like this is something that we try to nurture at Rydal Penrhos, and I feel we have a responsibility to give Will all the help he needs in ensuring that his game continues to develop.
“We wish him the best of luck at the Conwy Sports Awards and we are sure that there will be plenty more accolades to come in the future.”
Will has been aided by professional coaching at the school by Samad Fallah, the Indian swing king who has helped guide Colwyn Bay Cricket Club to their first ever Welsh Cup and achieve promotion to the Liverpool and District Premier Division.
The Sports Awards are designed to recognise and honour the talented sports people, sports clubs, coaches and volunteers in Conwy.
