Rydal Penrhos trio reach regional final of prestigious public speaking competition

A trio of Colwyn Bay school pupils have reached the regional finals of a prestigious public speaking competition.

The Rydal Penrhos team of Morgan Kendall, Sydney Johnson and Cerys Cuddihy came away victorious in the Rotary Youth Speaks Competition district finals, which was held at Glyndwr University on Friday, February 26.

The pupils’ beat out a number of schools competing from North Wales, Cheshire and the Wirral, and they will now be returning to the Wrexham on Sunday, March 13 to compete in the regional final.

English Teacher Rachel Jones, said: “The standard of the presentations throughout the evening was incredibly high, with schools delivering speeches on an array of topics - from technology to time - in front of a large audience.

“Against tough opposition, the Rydal Penrhos team reached the top spot and spoke with confidence and eloquence.

“The judges commended the team on the high quality and professional manner they conducted their speech.”

Acting head Roger McDuff, added: “This is a truly wonderful achievement and a huge congratulations should go to Morgan, Sydney and Cerys for their efforts.

“Their preparation in the lead up to this event has been exemplary and all three have been a huge credit not only to themselves, but to the school, and we wish them the very best of luck in the regional finals.”
