Millfield Prep’s Year 1 pupils have been learning about ‘dwellings’ this term.
Pupils visited Gough’s Cave and Museum to find out what it was like to live in a cave. At the museum they met a caveman who showed them how he made different types of tools to hunt and make things. They tried on some of his fur clothes and visited his house.
The children also learnt about how cavemen would make marks with flints onto bones to help them record data, today known as tallies. The children were given a bag of different coloured counters to sort into sets and count. Then they recorded the quantities on coloured bones using a tally.
