Penrhos pupil earns Welsh Sailing squad call-up

A sailing quartet at a Colwyn Bay school is set for a big summer on the water after earning a national squad selection.

Rydal Penrhos pupils Ewan Luke, Zac Blomeley, together with brothers Eddie and Kevin Farrell, will be part of the Welsh National RS Feva squad for their summer events after a number of impressive performances last season and during training camps.

In addition, they will also be competing at the RS Feva World Championships, which will be held in Santander, Spain from Monday, July 25.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This is fantastic news and a testament to how dedicated all four have been in order to earn his spot with the Welsh squad.

“We have a number of sailors here at Rydal Penrhos who are competing regionally and for various national squads, which shows what a fantastic job our staff are doing at nurturing their talent.

“Everyone at the school wishes themthe very best of luck this summer and we are confident that they will be successful.”

The foursome will begin their national squad events at the Volvo Grand Prix, before heading to the Welsh Youth Championships in Pwllheli on Saturday, April 23.

The highlight of the summer calendar takes place on May 28, when the gifted sailors take part in the RS Feva National Championships at Weymouth.
