New headmaster appointed at Rydal Penrhos
20th May 2016

A new headmaster has been appointed at a leading Colwyn Bay school.

Simon Smith, aged 41, will take up the position at Rydal Penrhos in January, and is currently deputy head academic at Haileybury, a prestigious independent school in Hertfordshire.

Mr Smith, who is married with two children, said: “I'm delighted to be joining the Rydal Penrhos community, a school that respects its history and heritage while always looking forward and being ambitious for its pupils.

“I can see that, across both Prep and Senior schools, Rydal Penrhos encapsulates so many of the characteristics that make a school vibrant, happy and successful.

“I am very much looking forward to becoming part of a school which has its sights set on guiding young people to aim high and to grow into tolerant, confident, generous adults who can make a difference in the world.

“On a personal note, my family and I feel incredibly lucky to be moving to the stunning North Wales coast and are endeavouring to learn at least a little Welsh before we arrive in January.”

Acting head Roger McDuff will continue in his role until the end of the year, and will then return to his joint roles as Director of Strategic Planning and Head of Prep School following Mr Smith’s arrival.

Mr McDuff, said: “I wish to pass on my congratulations to Simon Smith in his new appointment.

“We have already met and I am looking forward to working with such an experienced teaching professional over the coming months.”
