A Llandudno reverend and politician will be the special guest at this year’s Speech Day at Rydal Penrhos.
Lord John Roger Roberts of Llandudno will be the guest speaker at the event, which takes place on Saturday, May 28.
A Methodist Minister since 1957, Rev. Roberts was Superintendent Minister at Llandudno for 20 years before becoming Minister of the Dewi Sant (Welsh United) Church, Toronto.
He has been chair of the Aberconwy Talking Newspaper for the blind, trustee of the Fund for Human Need and board member of the Centre for Reform.
In addition, he has also been president of the Welsh Liberal Democrats and, before that, the Welsh Liberal party.
Rev. Roberts was also leader of the Liberal Democrats on Aberconwy Borough Council and stood as a candidate for the Conwy constituency five times.
His current positions include being president of Wales International, honorary president of Bite the Ballot, Lib Dems for Seekers of Sanctuary (LD4SOS) and Friends of Barka UK.
He joined the House of Lords in 2004 and key parliamentary interests include youth democratic engagement, unemployment, asylum, migration and Welsh affairs. He is a widower with three children and lives in Llandudno.
Acting head Roger McDuff, said: “We are thrilled that Lord Roberts has agreed to join us for Speech Day, which is one of the prominent dates on the school’s calendar.
“It is a chance for our pupils to receive recognition for everything they have accomplished throughout the year, and to have someone of such prestige coming to the event is a real honour for everyone here at Rydal Penrhos.”
