Prep School twins achieve success at national Chess competition
29th June 2016

A pair of Preparatory School chess stars achieved success at a prestigious competition recently.
Twins Harry and Rhys Buttle, Year 4 pupils at Rydal Penrhos, competed at the Delancey UK Schools’ Chess Challenge, and both acquitted themselves well in the face of stern competition.
It proved to be an exceptional day on the boards for Harry, who came away from the contest with the Under Nine Supremo trophy for his efforts.
Brother Rhys also gained praise for his performances, and received a certificate of commendation for his fine play.
Both pupils will be part of the Rydal Penrhos contingent that will compete at the UK Chess Challenge semi-finals later this year.
Prep School head Roger McDuff, said: “This was another wonderful effort from Harry and Rhys, and to thrive in a competition littered with talent is an incredible feat.
“Our chess programme is something that we are very proud of here at Rydal Penrhos, and you can see the benefits of it with the numerous successes we have had in various regional and national competitions this year.
“Harry and Rhys are two extremely gifted pupils and I am confident that this is just the start of their success.”
