Showjumping star Hattie achieves British Championships success

A Preparatory School showjumping star achieved success at a prestigious national competition.

Hattie Maddocks, a member of Aberconwy Pony Club and Year 5 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, competed at the British Showjumping Championships, with were held in Stoneleigh from August 9-14.

Competing in the 128cm Stepping Stones category, the nine year-old produced a fabulous performance against the best riders in the country by finishing seventh out of 35 competitors.

The prep pupil will now turn her attention to the Scope Festival UK Supreme Championships, which will be held in Staffordshire from August 21-27.

Despite her young age Hattie has already competed at county level and had success at standout shows including the Flint and Denbigh, Eglwysbach and Royal Welsh in what has been a promising career to date.

 Prep School head Roger McDuff, said: “This will be another fantastic experience for Hattie as she continues to make a name for herself in the showjumping world.

“She did remarkably well to qualify for the British Championships, and to perform as she did shows just how much natural ability she has in the sport.

“The sky is the limit for her in terms of what she can achieve thanks to her hard work and dedication, and everyone at Rydal Penrhos is immensely proud of her.”
