A former Rydal Penrhos rugby star has agreed a deal with English Premiership side Exeter Chiefs.
Sean Lonsdale, who played starring role in RGC’s promotion to the Principality Premiership last term, has departed Parc Eirias to test his skills across the border.
The second row was part of the Rydal Penrhos Rugby Academy which is run in partnership with the Gogs, and his departure comes on the back of fly-half James Lang signing for Premiership rivals Harlequins.
Speaking to the Daily Post, ex-pupil and RGC Coach Josh Leach, said: “In both cases we are obviously disappointed to lose them, and both ourselves and the WRU worked hard to try and persuade them to stay in Wales.
“But unfortunately they decided to go and it is credit really to how well they played last year that they are both attracting interest from such big clubs.”
RGC take on Newport Gwent Dragons tonight (Friday) in the latest preseason clash ahead of their first top flight season, which opens with a tricky away trip to Bridgend on Saturday, September 3.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This is a huge move for Sean and one that is sure to benefit his development considerably.
“He is the latest in a long line of players from our rugby academy that has gone on to achieve success, and his performances for RGC last season show what immense talent he has at his disposal.
“Congratulations to Sean on his move and everyone at Rydal Penrhos wishes him the very best of luck.”
