Host of Rydal Penrhos skiers qualify for British Championships
11th October 2016

A host of skiing stars at Rydal Penrhos achieved success at a national competition.

The nine-strong team descended on Llangranog for the Welsh Championships last weekend, with a large number producing stunning efforts against the most talented skiers in the country.

Among the pupils that qualified for the British finals in Gloucester were the girls’ relay team of Holly Battersby, Keira Bonnington, Bella Rutherford and Sara Owen, who gained a bronze medal to book their place at the Gloucester showcase.

There was further success in the form of the boys’ team, with Chay Bonnington, Tirion Jones, Llewellyn Cowell and Arthur Webber, who also qualified after finishing fourth.

Year 9 pupil Weber also achieved individual success with silver in the under 14 boys’ category, while Kiera gained the same honour in the U16 girls’ race.

To add to the triumphs, Year 8 pupil Bella scooped silver medals in both the U14 girls’ and overall girls non-registered racers competitions.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This is a fantastic effort from the group and for them to qualify for the British Championships is extremely pleasing.

“This success is down to both the hard work of the pupils and head of skiing Dave Robson, who has done a marvellous job of developing their skills and ensuring that our unique programme goes from strength-to-strength.”
