Katie is North West Judo champion
13th October 2016

Katie Wright, 11, who has recently started at Giggleswick School from Settle Primary School, has become the North West Area Judo Champion for the second year running after competing in the finals in Blackburn on Sunday 9 October.

Prior to the competition Katie, who is coached by Danny Harper, a former GB athlete, was undefeated in 2015 and has only lost one competitive event this year, getting silver at the Craven Open Judo Championships held at Giggleswick School.

This adds to Katie’s titles as Lancashire Champion and Gold Medallist 2016 and North West Area Champion (2015 and 2016).  In the Midlands, Katie is Champion and Gold Medallist in two weight divisions, the only Judoka to do this at the event.

She is now preparing for the British Junior Championships in December, and if successful she hopes to try for the national team. Katie said

It was nerve-wracking fighting in front of so many people but also exciting. It feels really good to have won!
