Track star Jonathan Osbourne wins athlete of the year
25th October 2016

A Preparatory School track and field star has won a prestigious accolade after a fine debut season.

Jonathan Osbourne, a Year 6 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, picked up the U11 Athlete of the Year from Colwyn Bay Athletics Club last weekend.

It has been a memorable first season of competitive action for the 10-year-old, who has achieved a number of notable successes in both the 75 metre sprint and long jump.

His first outing saw him win the U11 75m sprint in a superb time of 11.8 seconds in a Cheshire League meet and was the only young athlete to go under 12 seconds in his age group, which consisted of 40 performers.

The Rydal Penrhos pupil has since gone on to break three personal bests (11.6 seconds) in what has been a fantastic summer, and he has now begun using the facilities at the Senior School, where he will be working with the school’s Strength and Conditioning staff to enhance his development.

Acting head Roger McDuff, said: “Congratulations to Jonathan on his award, which is a testament to how well he has performed throughout his first season at the club.

“He is an immensely talented individual with a great willingness to get better, which is sure to bring with it even more success next summer.”
