A gifted swimmer at Rydal Penrhos is now among some of the best in the country after a record-breaking performance.
Zach Speakman, a Year 9 pupil at the school, achieved no fewer than eight personal best times from as many races at a weekend event in Stockport, a performance that has seen him surge up the national rankings.
The 14-year-old is now in the top 25 in his age category in a number of disciplines thanks to his superb outing, which saw him set new PBs in the 100m freestyle and butterfly, 200m fly, individual medley, freestyle and backstroke, in addition to 400m individual medley and freestyle.
It has been a memorable year so far for the sports scholar, who has achieved a number of regional and national triumphs in what has been an extremely promising career to date.
Head of Swimming Maciej Ruszkowski, said: “Zach continues to show why he is regarded as one of the most talented swimmers in the country in his age group, and everyone at Rydal Penrhos is thrilled with his continued success.
“While he has an enormous amount of natural ability, Zach demonstrates an incredible desire to get better in a multitude of different strokes, something that has brought with it a number of significant achievements so far.
“To be ranked top 25 in the UK is a remarkable achievement and he is to be congratulated on his efforts.”
