A former Rydal Penrhos pupil has been named in the Wales Sevens squad for the latest leg of an international series.
Tom Williams, who now plys his trade for Swansea on loan from Ospreys, is part of Gary Williams’ 14-man squad for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, which will be held in Wellington, New Zealand next weekend (January 28-29).
The squad will be looking to add to their recent success in the competition, having gained notable triumphs in both the Dubai and Cape Town legs of the showcase.
They have been drawn with Scotland, Canada and Russia in what promises to been a keenly contested competition throughout.
Williams, said: "We've very much set ourselves long-term goals, but to start the way we did with semi- and quarter-final finishes in Dubai and Cape Town was way ahead of expectations when you consider how young this group is.
"But next weekend is an excellent opportunity for us in New Zealand. We've had a good training block over Christmas and the New Year, which will hopefully be reflected on the pitch in Wellington."
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, added: “It is great to see so many of our former pupils doing so well on both the national and international stage, and everyone at Rydal Penrhos wishes Tom well with the Wales Sevens squad.
“He has already shown that he can make an impact against some of the best sides in the world, and hopefully this will guide Wales to another strong showing.”
