OSCAR Radio on 87.9FM
3rd March 2017

Founded in 1988, OSCAR Radio is a showcase of the talent and enthusiasm of Oundle School pupils and will be back on air on 7th March for a two week broadcast.

As the only radio station run and directed exclusively by pupils, OSCAR Radio is an exemplar of the success that young adults can achieve within a professional working environment and is an asset that is treasured by everyone at Oundle, offering unique opportunities within the School environment. With the continued support of Sir Howard Stringer (Chairman, Sony Worldwide) and Mr Carl Heinlein, and this year managed by Lower Sixth Form pupils, Robbie Hayes (17) and Lucy Stock (17), OSCAR is a legacy that has spanned over nineteen years.

Co-managing director Lucy Stock (17) commented, “As Managing Directors this year, Robbie and I have the pleasure of building upon the strong foundations of OSCAR and improving the station's presence both online, on the air waves and throughout the local area. We intend to increase the variety of our shows and hope to incorporate new hosts, techies and programmes. The up-coming broadcast is set to be an exciting one with many new interviews and an invigorated advertising campaign. We hope you enjoy the fresh-faced but familiar sounding broadcast in March.”

Whilst the team want to leave some surprises for this year’s broadcast, they are really looking forward to covering the school production of Les Miserables, which will be performed at the start of OSCAR’s broadcast this year.

Teacher in charge of OSCAR Radio, Chris Pettitt, said, “I am very much looking forward to this up-coming broadcast with our new management team of Fifth and Lower Sixth formers. I expect to hear some entertaining and stimulating radio with a wealth of influences from across the spectrum of School life and as always we are directing our spotlight towards the School's breadth of subjects and cultural diversity. We hope to have programming in several languages and plan to embrace the cultures experienced on our overseas trips and from our many pupils from around the world. Our focus this season is on outside broadcasts and recorded interviews with our Sports teams and with the cast and crew of our Drama Department’s production of Les Miserables.”

OSCAR Radio reaches a 30 square-mile range and has kept its audience captivated for all thirty-eight previous broadcasts. With the fresh and innovative ideas of pupils wanting to create and host their own shows, OSCAR Radio has enjoyed a diverse selection of programmes from music programmes through to game programmes; each as interesting and creative as the next.

The Head, Mrs Kerr-Dineen, commented, “The opportunities that OSCAR Radio gives Oundle pupils are second to none in radio journalism and I am very proud indeed of what is achieved.”

The upcoming broadcast will run from 7th- 20th March with all the diversity of programmes that OSCAR aims to deliver including music, interviews, sport, academia, radio plays and many more besides!

Listeners will be able to tune in on their radios (87.9FM in the Oundle area) or use the live streaming utility on OSCAR’s website at www.oscar-radio.org where they can also listen to Podcasts. Thanks to an update of the OSCAR website last year, listeners all over the globe are able to listen in and access the programmes and information about OSCAR.
