A Rydal Penrhos employee will team up with a renowned celebrity chef to raise funds for charity at a special event this summer.
Richard Smith, who holds the position of Estates Manager, has secured a place on Team Ramsay to compete in the London Triathlon, which will take place on Saturday, July 22.
The event is the brainchild of Gordon Ramsay, with all proceeds going the Gordon and Tana Ramsay Foundation, which supports Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Mr Smith, said: “I am very excited to be able to compete in the world’s largest triathlon and also raise money for a very worthy cause.
“I have only been doing triathlon for a relatively short period of time but it has changed my life and given me back the determination and drive to be competitive again.
“I am not back to full fitness yet but I’m getting there, have lost a load of weight and feel fantastic, even though my family now think I’m obsessed with training.
“I will be training extra hard on the run up to July as I want to do the best that I possibly can, enjoy the atmosphere and hopefully finish in front of Gordon Ramsay, who I believe is pretty fast.
The event, which takes place at London Excel Centre, will see athletes of all abilities take part in a 750m swim, 20km cycle and a 5km run in the city’s Docklands.
Mr Ramsay, added: “Tana and I will be swimming, cycling and running to support Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity by taking part in the London Triathlon next summer.
“The event is suited to all abilities so whether this is the first time you will be tri-ing or you are an Olympic champion, everyone will be supporting this amazing charity to enable them to continue to transform the lives of seriously ill children, and their families.”
