King’s Ely Mathematicians runners-up in regional finals of national competition
16th March 2018

King's Ely students beat off stiff competition to come second in this year’s UK Team Maths Challenge.

King’s Ely Senior students Sam Barber and Eleanor MacGillivray, and King’s Ely Junior pupils Ben Collier and George Meyer, travelled to King’s School, Peterborough, to compete in the regional finals of the UK Team Maths Challenge.

Teams from 26 different schools were competing on the day and King’s Ely’s fantastic foursome came second, narrowly missing out on first place to the team from Oundle School. Ben, George, Sam and Eleanor are now waiting to hear whether they have qualified for the national finals being held in London in June.

The team’s success comes just weeks after more than 50 King’s Ely students won awards in the Intermediate Maths Challenge. Over 200,000 school pupils from across the UK took part in the competition, which is organised each year by the UK Mathematics Trust. King’s Ely students won an impressive 21 Gold awards, 10 Silver and 25 Bronze prizes.
