11th June 2018

A staff member at Rydal Penrhos has been shortlisted for a prestigious award for a second consecutive year.

Dean Jones, who works as a Communications Assistant at the school, is one of the finalists in the School Communication Award category at the Daily Post Schools Awards in association with Excell Supply.

The 36-year-old was nominated for the honour by Director of Communications Susan Hogan for his continuous and ever-improving digital marketing strategy that involves the entire Rydal Penrhos community.

During his time at Rydal Penrhos, the former journalist has increased the school’s media presence both regionally and nationally in a wide range of print and online publications, in addition to being at the forefront of social media activity on the likes of Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram.

Mr Jones has also been a key contributor in the team who created the new prospectus, while also improving Rydal Penrhos’ Welsh language communications and ensuring that people are kept full up to date with events through methods including a Live Updates Blog, Mobile App, constant news stories and interactive monthly newsletters.

The staff member will now attend a glitzy awards dinner on Thursday, June 28 at Coleg Cambria alongside other representatives from the school.

Mrs Hogan, said: “Dean has developed a digital marketing strategy that has hugely benefitted the whole school community.

“Although Rydal Penrhos is an English medium school he has created dual language communications on social media to make sure we are inclusive to all parts of our community.

“He has also increased the pupil involvement with regular takeovers of Instagram and Snapchat. This has helped educate and direct the pupils in the positive and appropriate uses of social media and Dean has helped them understand personal online safety in a proactive way.”
