WELCOME!  BIENVENUE!  Добро пожаловать!

RECEPCIÓN!  欢迎  WILLKOMMEN!

Welcome to the international pages of the Boarding Schools' Association (BSA) Website. The BSA is an association of fully-accredited boarding schools in the United Kingdom. This means that all BSA member schools are places where students can stay 24 hours every day each week as well as studying there.

British boarding schools are believed to be the best in the world, since Britain seems to be the most popular choice for international students seeking boarding education.

The British system of school education, however, is likely to be different to your own education system. For example, students progress through the British system according to their age, not according to their ability. The ability levels of each student are measured by examinations. These include some special government-licensed examinations including GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education) at the age of 16 or 17, or “A” levels, IB, or Pre-U (Advanced Level, International Baccalaureate or Pre-University) at the age of 18 or 19.

Students can start at some British boarding schools (Prep Schools) as young as 7 years old, but move on to secondary or high school boarding at the age of 11 or 13. Good ages to transfer to secondary level education are 11, 13, 14 or 16.

British boarding schools usually require students to have at least elementary standard English but most schools can provide help for students whose level of English needs further improvement. There are also some schools that are specially designed to help non-British students join the British education system, and these are usually called International Study Centres.

If you contact any of the BSA member schools, they will need to know:

  1. The name of the possible student.
  2. Whether the student is a boy or a girl.
  3. The student’s date of birth.
  4. Your name and contact details (email, fax etc.).
  5. The date when you plan that the student should join the school. Remember that the school year in the UK starts at the beginning of September.

All British boarding schools are inspected by the Government regularly, so parents may be re-assured of the high standards of care which their children will receive. All students at British boarding schools are expected to be involved in sport, and they are also given the opportunity to develop musical, artistic or acting skills. All British boarding schools offer many other activities. Education in Britain is about personal and social development as well as passing examinations.

We hope that you will choose a British boarding education! We look forward to welcoming you to a British Boarding School.
