Leweston Prep Go Back in Time to the Victorian Era

Posted: 23rd May 2022

Pupils from Leweston Prep spent the day as a Victorian student, as part of their topic learning.

On Thursday 19 May, Prep 3 and 4 had a visit from the Victorian School, to experience what life was like as a child in a Victorian classroom, as part of their school topic.

The morning started with the pupils getting to try on the costumes provided, such as bonnets, aprons, waistcoats and hats. They then went to class as usual, but their classroom had been transformed into a typical Victorian Era classroom. Mr Murphy from the Victorian School did a fantastic job in demonstrating what times were like for pupils, by showing them how to curtsy and address others. They were even shown how a pupil back then might had been punished!

The pupils wrote using ink and pen, rolled their Rs, got inspected for cleanliness by their teachers, learnt songs and even got to play traditional Victorian games. Pupils also made their own Victorian peg doll toys and made flags to sing the National anthem at the end of the day.

The pupils (and teachers) had a fantastic time learning about this period, and thank Mr Murphy for being a fantastic role model to the pupils.
