Farlington School is a warm and welcoming independent day and boarding school, providing an exceptional, all-round education for boys and girls aged 4 to 18. Formerly an all-girls’ school, Farlington began welcoming boys in 2018, and from September 2021 will be fully co-educational. We are very proud to be the only co-educational independent all-through school (Reception to Sixth Form) in the Horsham area.

Founded in 1896, Farlington is nestled in 33 acres of beautiful Sussex parkland near the bustling market town of Horsham in West Sussex. Just 25 minutes’ drive from Gatwick Airport and within easy reach of Central London (50 minutes by train from Horsham) and the South Coast (just over half an hour away by car), our location is both idyllic and convenient. We are delighted to provide a private minibus service, and transport to and from Horsham Station can be organised for Senior School students.

At Farlington, our vision is to inspire our students to embrace learning in all its forms. We are a forward-thinking school where academic success and co-curricular achievement are valued equally. Every pupil is known, valued and nurtured here. Pastoral care is paramount, with the happiness and wellbeing of every student at the core of daily life; Farlington enjoys a strong sense of community and a real ‘family feel’.

Our aim is to instil a long-lasting love of learning. We stretch the most able and support the least confident, so that each pupil fulfils his or her individual academic potential, whilst engaging with opportunity every single day. Farlington’s ‘can-do’ philosophy instils confidence in our students, enabling them to thrive as they go out into the world and shape their own future.

Our most recent Independent Schools Inspectorate report described Farlington School as providing ‘an excellent curriculum with outstanding teaching’. Our staff pride themselves on an ability to harness your child’s academic talents, and their priority is to provide an education that challenges and inspires.

It goes without saying that pupils come to school to learn, but learning at Farlington is not restricted to the classroom. We firmly believe that lessons learnt beyond the classroom are as vital to a child’s preparation for life as those learnt within it. With this in mind, Farlington offers an extensive extra-curricular provision, incorporating enrichment, sporting, creative and travel opportunities that you would struggle to find in a school of a similar size.

We also offer a number of ‘wraparound care’ options for pupils of all ages, to help parents manage a busy schedule. Day pupils may be dropped off at school for breakfast, and can even stay for a light supper with the boarders at the end of the day, easing the parental burden of racing to pick up.

Farlington offers flexi, weekly and full boarding from Year 4 upwards, in friendly Boarding Houses where our supportive staff are always on hand to help or lend a listening ear. With small numbers there is a lovely, ‘family’ atmosphere in the Boarding Houses, with the students supporting each othe, and the older boarders making sure the younger pupils are settling well and making new friends.

Boarders at Farlington enjoy a home-from-home environment with comfortable bedrooms, cosy communal areas, campus-wide WiFi access, spacious study areas and all mod cons. Once the busy school day is over, evenings are relaxed and fun, with a great sense of community. The Common Room has a large-screen TV, and every Friday is ‘Movie Night’ – complete with popcorn! At the weekend there is so much on offer, from ceramic painting and theatre and cinema visits, to theme park trips and active pursuits such as kayaking, climbing and abseiling. There is even the occasional opportunity for some retail therapy. If students have anything in particular that they would like to do at the weekend, we are of course happy to consider all (reasonable) requests!

Firm friendships are forged and our boarders develop great social skills and a strong sense of independence, as well as a warmth of spirit and character that will serve them well at university and throughout their lives.
