Windlesham House School is one of the country’s leading IAPS co-educational day and boarding preparatory schools for children aged 4 to 13. There are approximately 325 pupils – just over 275 in the main school (7-13) and just under 50 in our pre-prep (4-7), which is affectionately known as Little Windlesham. The School nestles in 65 glorious acres in the South Downs countryside in West Sussex and gives every type of child the opportunity to reach their potential in whatever sphere of life that may be. It is within easy reach of the Brighton, Horsham and Chichester districts, just over an hour from central London and close to Gatwick and Heathrow Airports. Established in 1837, Windlesham moved to its current site between Findon and Washington in 1934. It was the first school in the country to be established as a preparatory school and in 1967 became the first IAPS co-educational school. Whilst academic excellence and success are a high priority, we nurture a very caring, family atmosphere. Rachel and I put every effort into getting to know well each and every child and we derive enormous pleasure in seeing children flourish in what is a wonderful environment and an unrivalled setting. A very talented and totally committed staff make the happiness, security and personal development of each child their over-riding concern.

Parents tell us that Windlesham is a place where nobody hesitates to go the extra mile. The heads wife, Rachel Foster, visits all the dorms every evening and Richard Foster has installed specialist teachers for subjects ranging from Mandarin to the marimba. The setting is stunning and the majority of pupils are full-boarders (those from London can take advantage of a school bus from Putney after a weekend at home). Theres a newly restored walled garden, which will be used for science lessons and to provide food for the schools kitchens, and plans are under way for an indoor swimming pool and sports hall. This school thinks big, focuses on confidence-building and aims to please everyone, whether by adding Norwegian to the curriculum or introducing a snooker club or cool night-vision cameras in the woods to film the animals therein.Tatlers Schools Guide
