Set in a beautiful 45 acre Surrey site, the School enjoys excellent facilities and an aspirational learning environment. Gordon’s is recognised by HM Chief Inspector of Schools as one of Britain’s finest non-selective schools, with circa 750 pupils including 200 residential boarders and a thriving Sixth Form. It has been considered the best state school in Surrey by The Real Schools Guide in 2015 and 2016 and ranked in the top 10 non-selective schools in England for GCSE and GCE results in 2016. In 2016, 67% of Gordon’s Year 13s secured a place in a top university (Russell and 1994 Groups).

Gordon’s School, located close to the M25 and the M3, is one of the country’s top state boarding schools. As a non-selective school, Gordon’s has received ‘outstanding’ Ofsted inspections in both academic achievement and boarding. In fact, all boarding categories were judged as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in spring 2013. In particular:

  • Behaviour is outstanding and the relationship between staff and pupils is one of mutual respect
  • The quality of provision and care for boarders has an exceptional impact on the quality of their lives and boarders make exceptional progress
  • The safety of boarders is central to all that the school does. Boarders feel safe and supported
  • The views of boarders are central to the way the school operates and develops its practice
  • Boarders have access to an extensive choice of high quality activities which enable them to acquire and develop new skills and knowledge
  • Anti-bullying is high on the agenda. Because of this, there are extremely low instances of bullying
  • Boarding Houses and facilities are of high quality, well furnished, maintained and offer students a homely environment
  • Routine monitoring of quality of practice is used to drive forward continuous improvement

For a non-selective school this is impressive and testimony to a hallmark of Gordon’s, a relentless commitment to hard work to both students and staff.   Gordon’s, as the National memorial to General Gordon of Khartoum, recognises that a good education is not just about outstanding examination results but a thorough preparation for life; it is about developing character and confidence through great teaching and abundant opportunities to strive, do, make, perform and learn. Supported by The Gordon Foundation, the school has unique ceremonial traditions and adheres to a culture which instils fundamental character development and discipline that the students find so valuable in later life. The School prides itself on its academic rigour, excellent pastoral care, ceremony and enviable extracurricular activity programmes. We insist on hard work, exemplary behaviour and relentless courtesy at all times.  As the only school permitted to parade through Whitehall in London, each student is given the opportunity to partake in a ceremony unlike any other. We have a proud record of commitment to the highest standards and put great store in the widest possible recognition and celebration of achievement and natural talent.   All who visit Gordon’s are struck by the friendly, purposeful calm that pervades the school. This is no accident and is borne from self-disciplined, focused and appreciative young people. Young people who are ambitious to be the best they can be, able to think for themselves, with a firmly-held moral code based on personal responsibility, respect for others and the desire to serve the wider community. Please refer to our website under the Admissions section for the latest information on making arrangements to visit the school.  Gordon’s School is a registered charity (No. 312092) to educate or contribute to the education of boys and girls, having particular regard to those with a specific boarding or educational need.
