Christ's Hospital is an independent school supported by a charitable Foundation with a remarkable history. Established in the City of London by King Edward VI in 1552, but now located on 1200 acres near Horsham, West Sussex, Christ's Hospital is a place of unique history and still proudly retains many of its distinctive traditions, including the famous 'Bluecoat' uniform. The School's mission, which is to provide first class educational opportunities to pupils from all walks of life is successfully delivered through its substantial level of bursarial support. 88% of its pupils receive fee support to a greater or lesser extent, funding considerably more places than any other independent boarding school in the UK. The diversity of its intake contributes to its success as an outstanding educational institution and a genuine microcosm of modern society. The majority of pupils board and entry is at age 11, 13 and 16 subject to candidates meeting the required academic standard and suitability to board. Scholarships are awarded and may be linked to bursarial assistance.
Christ's Hospital has been placed in The Times Top 50 co-educational Independent Schools for A Level results. In 2012, over 78% of all grades were A*-B. Pupils gained places at top UK universities, including Oxford and Cambridge; the majority to first choice universities.
