The Monkton U14 boys hockey team travelled to Bristol last Thursday to take part in the annual Avon County Championships, hosted by Clifton College, where they were proud to leave as county champions.
Whilst the event was sadly held behind closed doors, it was wonderful to be able to playing these events again, as this time last year we were in the middle of a lockdown and all hockey was off.
For Monkton the event went better than any of could have hoped. It was a morning filled with competitive matches, played in a wonderful spirit and full of growth and development opportunities for the players. Monkton combined attacking threat with resolute defending to top their pool, win a tight semi-final and to secure victory in the final via penalty shuffles.
One of the team said:
“It was a wonderful experience and we all had such a good morning out. While we knew we would be competitive, none of us expected to win the tournament so it was a great finish to the day. A big thank you to Mr Hibbert and Miss Tremlett who coached and managed us.
“We are now looking forward to our trip to Millfield for the Regional Finals next month.”
