St Peter’s School Fifth Form pupils have achieved outstanding GCSE results this year with an amazing three quarters of all results awarded grades 9 to 7 (A* to A). Over half of grades were at 9 to 8 with almost 100% at 9 to 5.
This is a remarkable achievement following the disruption and lockdowns faced over recent years.
The school is extremely proud of the achievements of all pupils and there have also been many exceptional individual performances, including:
Will, BBC Young Chorister of the Year 2019 and excellent musician, achieved an outstanding 12 grade 9 GCSEs – only one of thirteen pupils in the whole country to have done so, according to data released by Ofqual – having opted for additional qualifications in Further Maths and Greek.
Talented Alex also achieved 12 GCSEs,11 grade 9s and 1 grade 7, whilst representing the school in rugby, hockey and singing in the choir. Oliver was awarded a fantastic 11 grade 9s and also represents the school in rugby and hockey. Fraser, who reached the final of Channel 4’s Junior Bake Off in 2022, earned an excellent 10 GCSEs, (4 grade 9s and 6 grade 8s). Dedicated Sophia, managed to achieve 9 GCSEs at grades 9 to 6 whilst also juggling her time as a netball player for Oldham in the National Premier League.
The Girls’ Hockey Team who reached the finals of the U14s National Hockey Championships in 2020 – and then ranked fifth in the country – demonstrated the good balance between sport and academic studies at St Peter’s. All thirteen hockey team members achieved ten or more GCSE grades, with many at top grade 9. Team member, Arabella, following on from the success of her sister last week (who achieved 4 A*s at A Level in St Peter’s Sixth Form), achieved an impressive 10 grade 9s and 1 grade 8, at GCSE. Another talented team member, Sophie, achieved 9 grade 9s and a grade 8.
Overall, 15 pupils achieved a clean sweep of ten or more GCSEs at grades 9 to 8. A further 23 pupils received ten or more GCSEs at grades 9 to 7.
There is a diverse list of GSCE subjects to choose from at St Peter’s School. Subjects where pupils particularly excelled this year include Maths, Science, English Literature, Design & Technology and History, with results very strong across the board. Art is a subject where pupils particularly excel year after year, with every result at grade 7 or higher.
Jeremy Walker, Head Master says: “Congratulations to our fantastic Fifth Form. I am incredibly proud of everything they have achieved over these challenging years. Their continuing resilience, positivity, and commitment to all aspects of school life, makes their achievements even more special, and worthy of celebration.
I am also very grateful to my dedicated colleagues, who provide inspirational teaching and unwavering support for our pupils. It has also been a challenging time for parents and the way they have supported their children and St Peter’s has been much appreciated as we have tackled the last two years as a strong community.
Our talented Fifth Form pupils already make a valuable contribution to life at St Peter’s School, combining academic and co-curricular activities, to prepare them to make a difference in the world. As they journey into Sixth Form, we look forward to seeing their skills, values and interests develop further, alongside new pupils from other schools.”
