Rebecca de Pelet spent twelve years as Head of English at Sherborne School after stepping down but continuing to teach English within the department.
An inspirational teacher, a passionate believer in pupils’ potential, Rebecca has helped generations of boys to find enjoyment and success in a subject that rewards articulacy and emotional intelligence. Where boys were resistant, Rebecca would rapidly win them round and with a readiness to cajole, and it is easy to see why boys flourished.
Upon leaving Sherborne School, colleagues, friends and former pupils contributed to a Festschrift – a celebratory collection of writing – in her honour, because Rebecca was someone who gave writers the confidence to express themselves. Indeed, many of her students have become published writers.
Headmaster and CEO, Dr Luckett said ‘We are delighted for Rebecca to be recognised for the notable impact that she has made as a teacher. We can probably all remember teachers from our school days and it is a testament to Rebecca’s teaching that she has been recognised by this award nomination.’
