On Sunday 6th October Fettes hosted this year’s annual Independent Boarding Schools Hockey tournament, with the Fettes 1st XI hockey team retaining their title as champions for the second consecutive year, with three wins.
This highly competitive tournament is a round-robin format with all the competing schools playing each other once in twenty minute matches. Other schools taking part this year included Glenalmond, Loretto, Strathallan and Dollar
Fettes first game of the day was against Glenalmond. A very well taken early goal from Izzy A settled the nerves and Fettes soon settled in to their game plan. Fettes won the game 2-0 with the second goal coming from Emma L from a short corner. The second game was against Strathallan – a real end to end game with both teams having early chances. After a fantastic strike from Marianna M the game ended 1-1. The third game was against Dollar, and despite some pressure from the start, Fettes created some great goal scoring opportunities. Ava B and Izzy A linked brilliantly in midfield and Cleodie S-H work rate back in defence was excellent. Marianna M scored a fantastic goal with a strike from the top of the circle. Valentina L was called on in the last moments of the game and pulled off a fantastic save to ensure Fettes won 1-0. The final game of the day – against Loretto – ended in a 0-0 score, and although Fettes had already secured the tournament win this was a highly competitive game.
A fantastic day of hockey – well done to all!
