On 8 October, New Hall School marked its 352nd Foundation Day with a celebration steeped in tradition and creativity. The day’s events began with the Foundation Day Mass and continued with the ever-popular House Singing Competition. Students from each vertical house, Acutis, Augustine, Bakhita, Miki, Romero, and Teresa, embraced the opportunity to showcase their talents, with house themes centred on School values expertly chosen by the student Heads of House.
The musical performances reflected a wide array of creativity and spirit, featuring everything from the timeless classics of Les Misérables and the iconic Friends theme tune to the powerful music of Whitney Houston. Each house brought its unique energy, combining music with vibrant colour, choreography, and enthusiasm.
Augustine House claimed the win for their outstanding performance, demonstrating incredible teamwork, energy, and a love of music.
The day concluded with a fascinating lecture, Let’s Talk about Gender, delivered by renowned speaker Professor Tina Beattie. The thought-provoking discussion explored gender and the role of women and men within the Catholic Church and society. The talk formed part of a series led by the Canonesses of the Holy Sepulchre, New Hall’s founding religious community, known for their pioneering commitment to education.
The session sparked lively debate among students, staff, and guests, with many insightful questions and comments from participants, including Sixth Form boarders. Their contributions reflected a deep awareness of the future of gender dynamics in our society, offering an optimistic view of the role their generation will play in shaping these discussions.
Foundation Day served as a vibrant reminder of New Hall’s enduring values of care, trust and respect, bringing the School community together in faith, creativity, and thoughtful dialogue.
