Celebrating 125 years, Heathfield School, Ascot – an independent secondary boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18, rated ‘Excellent’ across all areas by the Independent Schools Inspectorate – continues its legacy of nurturing top fashion talent within its walls, and pioneering the latest in innovation, with a ground breaking generative AI fashion workshop hosted by Raya Khalifeh, Textile and Fashion Designer and founder of fashion tech platform Craftnology.
Commenting on the event, Angela Farrugia, Head of Art and Textiles at Heathfield, said, ‘By blending creativity with technology, we’re empowering the next generation of fashion designers to not only stay ahead of the curve, but to redefine what’s possible in the fashion world. With AI as their creative partner, our pupils are learning how to push boundaries, create sustainable solutions, and transform the way fashion is designed and experienced, while staying grounded in the fundamental principles of fashion. Welcome to the future of fashion, where innovation meets artistry, and the possibilities are limitless.’
‘With 73% of fashion executives prioritising Gen AI in 2024, the workshop gave pupils the opportunity to experience a more inclusive and innovative approach, with rapid conceptualisation and virtual prototyping, enhancing their creativity.
‘While we honour the timeless techniques and craftsmanship that have defined the fashion industry for centuries, we are equally committed to integrating cutting-edge technologies like AI into our curriculum. Our approach combines the best of both worlds – celebrating the artistry of the past while equipping pupils with the tools to innovate for the future.
‘The workshop covered the use of prompts, an introduction to the AI tools and collaborative designing. The outstanding outcomes produced will support the pupils’ practical portfolios. The day further illustrated that Heathfield provides a dynamic, innovative and forward-thinking Art education for its students.’
A hive of creativity, Heathfield has nurtured the talents of famous figures such as aristocrat and fashion editor Isabella Blow – patron to young designer Alexander McQueen, destined for greatness at Givenchy and Gucci. Other notable alumni include Tamara Mellon, OBE, British fashion entrepreneur and co-founder of the luxury footwear brand Jimmy Choo; model and actress Sienna Miller; model Amber Le Bon – daughter of super model Yasmin Le Bon; and Charlotte Stockdale, stylist and fashion director for British Vogue, I-D, and GARAGE, and shows for Dolce & Gabbana, DKNY, and Viktor&Rolf.
Commenting on the workshop, Sarah Rollings, Headteacher, said, ‘This unique fusion of tradition and innovation, very much echoes what life at our School is all about, reflecting on our 125 year heritage whilst embracing the future and leading the charge in its evolution. Heathfield is a small school offering big opportunities.’
