Upper sixth Richard Huish College A Level Physics students have picked up awards at the recent British Physics Olympiad, a competition set up to challenge top young physicists. This year saw 2,300 students take part from across 400 different schools in the UK with a further 2,100 students from China.
From those who took part nine students managed to walk away with awards, seven students received Bronze Awards and two students received Silver Awards, which was only awarded to 400 students in the whole competition. The recipients of the Silver Awards were Ewan Popham, formerly of Haygrove School and Noah Coombe, formerly of Queen’s College. Students who picked up Bronze Awards were; Will Baverstock (ex-Heathfield School), Michael Burger (ex-Kings College), Sam Gilding (ex-Courtfields), Virgil Lelong (ex-Kingsmead), Teddy Casson (ex-Beaminster School) and Amber Tang. A fantastic achievement for all who picked up awards.
Barrie Hall, Course Manager for A Level Physics said, “These brave students volunteered to take part and prepared in the weeks leading up to the competition. These are amongst the best results we’ve seen at Huish and is testament to how these talented young physicists have coped with the trials of the last few years.”
