Students at Edinburgh-based Fettes College have raised over £9,400 after taking part in a
24 hour endurance fundraiser over the weekend. The endurance event took place for the
third year running and saw students carry a 100 kg log for 24 hours to raise money and
awareness for SuperTroop – a charity which provides holidays for disabled children.
Students and staff worked in groups to continuously carry a large 100 kg log up and down
Fettes’ West Drive before sleeping out and completing slots during the middle of the night.
The Log Carry first took place in 2022, following the success of a ’24 Hour Tyre Drag’ in
2021.
Iona C, a current student who took part in this year’s Log Carry, said:
“It was a very exhausting 24 hours, but it was hugely rewarding knowing all the money raised is
going to an amazing charity.”
Pippa K, another student who took part, added:
“It was tough work, but was made easier by the knowledge of just how much our efforts and
fundraising helps the SuperTroop holiday run”
Rhys Rowlands, Director of Service at Fettes College, said:
“I couldn’t be more proud of the grit and determination displayed by over 550 Fettesians who
worked tirelessly for 24 hours. They all arrived on time to ‘carry their weight’, over 80 students
grafted through the night and a huge amount of staff and parent support was present throughout
the 24 hours. SuperTroop is an incredibly deserving charity, the money we have raised will
greatly enhance their ability to offer amazing opportunities to families and young people. Thank
you for all the donations. We look forward to planning the 2024 event!”
Sue Fletcher, Holiday Director at SuperTroop, commented:
“The children and young people who attend SuperTroop holidays have really complex needs.
Many have never stayed even one night away from home before. We want to make sure every
young person has a chance to spread their wings and have a really incredible holiday, while their
parents can relax knowing their child is safe and happy. Funds raised as a result of this incredible
physical and mental challenge will be spent giving holiday-makers a week to remember in
summer 2023 – and if we raise enough, we want to think about expanding our scheme. More
holidays for more deserving holiday-makers! SuperTroop just wouldn’t be possible without the
support we have from Fettes: fundraising on our behalf, hosting our holiday on site, and most of
all volunteering on the holiday itself. Their energy and enthusiasm, care and compassion are
essential to our scheme.”
