Course outline:

Not only is pupil voice a key focus in inspection frameworks but effective pupil voice is also one of the hallmarks of a thriving school community. Meaningful pupil voice leads to increased pupil engagement and improved relationships and overall school improvement. Recommendations from this webinar will also support compliance with Standard 13 of the National Minimum standards.

Training topics will include:

  • The benefits of involving students in decision-making
  • Logistical considerations for organising pupil voice events
  • Strategies to foster meaningful pupil voice
  • Listening and incorporating ideas into planning and decision-making

Mr David Mulae, Assistant Head Pastoral

David Mulae is Assistant Head Pastoral at Cranleigh School, a mature co-educational independent boarding and day school in Surrey, where he has responsibility for supporting staff and pupil wellbeing, promoting pupil leadership, and leading equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives. Within his role as an educational leader David is a steadfast advocate for all aspects of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and is able to bring his own heritage and lived experience into his passionate articulation of both the need and moral duty to drive racial equity within all areas of society including school settings. David believes that progress in one area of EDI usually supports other areas of EDI work and benefits all in the community including intersectional and majority groups. David offers measured, practical and realistic advice on how to start having these conversations, build partnerships, and start doing the necessary work to build better environments for all stakeholders.
