Course outline:

Intersectionality draws on the many identities people have which helps shape a person. When we think about intersectionality and race we look at the specific experiences one may have due to the colour of their skin and their heritage. This Webinar will take you on the necessary steps to learn about these experiences supports cultural competence and develops racial literacy which is necessary to create safe spaces and support those from global majority communities in an equitable way.

Training topics will include:

  • What is intersectionality?
  • Understanding various racialised experiences
  • How these experiences can affect all areas of ones personal life ,e.g work, home, communication etc
  • How to create safe spaces for colleagues/students of the global majority

Learning outcomes

  • Develop a clear understanding of racial intersectionality.
  • Identify how racial intersectionality can affect personal experience
  • Knowledge of how to create safe spaces for the global majority

Rebekah Hayward, Research, Inclusion and IELA Officer IELA
Rebekah is Research and Inclusion Officer and joined the BSA in April 2023. She is a qualified Primary School Teacher and holds a Masters in Education: International Development and Social Justice. She is the Co-Founder of ‘Increasing Black Representation’ a mentoring scheme for students and sits on the Diversity Board for the Health Tech company Medito. In her previous roles Rebekah has worked in Ed Tech analysing research and creating diverse curriculum content for schools. She has also worked with IESE reviewing literature and resources to ensure they promote equity, diversity and inclusion.
