RHS is a strong community and teachers and all the staff at the school continue to encourage and support our pupils to achieve the highest grades possible, and therefore we are delighted to see 40% of grades at B grade/Distinction or above. I am really delighted for the pupils, with so many accessing their first choice university, but I am also pleased for their teachers and all the staff who teach, support and encourage the pupils to achieve their best. Congratulations to each and every one of them and we are excited to see what the future holds for these talented individuals as they embark on the next stage of their academic and professional journeys.”

Each year we have seen the school improve its performance in the rankings whilst observing the pupil’s enduring commitment to the wider curriculum. I am constantly amazed by the ability of the top performers who achieve high grades alongside performing in sport, music and drama at the highest level. It is the combination of high achievement and breadth of interests and skills that I think stands our pupils in such a good position for the future. Brighton College
‘PROBABLY THE BEST A-LEVEL RESULTS IN THE COUNTRY!’
As pupils across the country receive their A-level results this morning, we are delighted that Brighton College pupils have achieved record-breaking results, with a phenomenal 99.3% A*-B. We have looked back at the results over the last decade and believe that no school in England has achieved a higher number of A* to B grades. These are the grades demanded by all the top universities in the UK and beyond. An incredible 85.2% of results were A*-A and almost half were A*.
There has been a lot of coverage in the press in recent days about boys outperforming girls at A-level. Fittingly for the top co-educational school in the country, we are thrilled to be bucking this trend, with an astonishing 167 A* grades for our boys and 167 A* grades for our girls!
Our pupils are heading off across the world to study at their chosen universities. Whilst Cambridge remains our top destination overall for our Sixth Formers, we are delighted that our pupils are winning places at almost every one of the global top 30 universities, including Stanford, Duke, NYU and Harvard. In addition, an incredible 22 pupils are heading to medical school, ready to take their place in the NHS of the future.
These are the final set of results for Richard Cairns as he moves from his position as Head Master to Principal of all eleven Brighton College schools, so it is particularly fitting that Brighton College are in first position in England. Back in 2005 when Mr Cairns was appointed, the College was 157th. As Mr Cairns put it: “I am quietly thrilled to be passing the baton on a day of such celebration and am equally delighted that I shall remain part of the Brighton College story going forward. Exciting times lie ahead for the school and for all our wonderful pupils celebrating today.”
Head Master, Steve Marshall-Taylor, commented: “As remarkable as these superb results are, we are equally proud of the way our leaving Upper Sixth pupils have continued to enjoy so many things beyond the classroom. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd XV rugby teams won every single match last season, our hockey girls enjoyed their most successful season ever, and our Upper Sixth pupils remained at the heart of the award-winning Chamber Choir, singing at Westminster Abbey and the Royal Albert Hall. Over 100 different charities have been supported in the past year raising over £174,000, with senior pupils leading the way and ensuring that our younger pupils understand their responsibilities to the world around them. And we all know that what really underpins this success is that our young people can truly be themselves, thanks to the kind and inclusive culture that underpins every minute of every day. Self-evidently, children who are happy in their own skins are children who flourish.”

Cranleigh School
Cranleigh School reports another good year of A-Level results, with 14 per cent of students achieving the top A* grade, 43 per cent of grades at A*-A, 78 per cent of grades at A*-B and an overall pass rate of 100 per cent.
The Sixth Formers performed extremely well, 38 per cent of students gaining A*/A in two or more subjects, and well over half of the cohort achieving all A*-B.
Huge congratulations to the five pupils who achieved all A*/AA, with Tom Cripp and Alice Reynolds additionally achieving A* at EPQ and Tom a further A in Greek AS. Top performing subjects were Music with 100% A*A and Economics with 76% A*/A.
Mr David Boggitt, Cranleigh’s Deputy Head Academic, said: “Our Sixth Formers really committed themselves to their studies and supported each other brilliantly this year. We wish them them the very best in their future plans.”
Earlier in the year Cranleigh announced another excellent set of Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Most Sixth Formers at Cranleigh take an EPQ alongside studying for three A-Levels. The qualification asks students to undertake a longer piece of research culminating in a dissertation style essay or the production of an artefact. It’s now widely used as a preparation for university learning by schools and sixth form centres across the country. This year student projects ranged from the interpretation of a famous painting in the form of a cake to the design of a set of costumes for a school play. The results were outstanding, with 43 per cent of pupils gaining A*/A and 73 per cent of all EPQs graded at A*-B.
The students who collected their results today are already focusing on their futures and most have had their university places confirmed. The majority will be going to university in the autumn, or taking a gap year and deferring a university place. Others have accepted apprenticeships or places at music, drama or art colleges.

Shebbear College
Upper Sixth students at Shebbear College are celebrating high achievements across the board in their A-Level and BTEC results this morning, with a 100% pass rate. Once again, the vast majority have gained a place at their first-choice university destination with a number going onto Russell Group universities.

Students will be taking up places at prestigious universities including the University of Birmingham, the University of Leeds and Guildford School of Acting (GSA). Meanwhile, others have chosen to take a different path, with plans for exciting opportunities including joining the RAF and travelling in South East Asia.
Head of School George Heard, from Holsworthy, found out this morning that he had achieved AAB in Physics, Economics and Maths and has gained a place at his first choice of university; he will be studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham.
“I didn’t really think about it until this morning to be honest.” he said when asked how he felt about receiving his results, “I was a bit nervous coming in to school and opening the envelope, but Mrs Aliberti, our UCAS teacher, told me that I got into my first choice, so that’s all that matters!”
Meanwhile, Isobel Watt from North Tawton was also very happy to have got into her first choice and is off to the University of Birmingham to study Liberal Arts, whilst her brother Cameron will be studying Astrophysics at the University of Leeds. A talented pianist, Isobel has juggled her A-level studies with her music during her time in the Sixth Form.
“When I saw that I had got into my first choice of uni and course I felt really relieved!” said Isobel. “My long-term plan is to try and study for a Masters but obviously that’s a way off at the moment, so I’ll see what happens!”
Performing Arts Scholar, Toby Shephard-Blandy from Buckland Brewer, gained CCC and an A* in his EPQ and is about to set out on an exciting career path, having gained a place on the Actor-Musician BA at the Guildford School of Acting, one of the most highly regarded theatre schools in the UK. Toby has had a busy Upper Sixth, having played the lead role of Jean Val Jean in the school production of Les Misérables in March as well as travelling to London every Saturday to attend the Royal College of Music Junior Department (RCMJD) where he gained a place to study Orchestral Percussion during his time in the Sixth Form.
“I was a little bit nervous this morning, because writing and essays are not my strongest point, hence why I did so many practical A-levels, but as soon as I opened the envelope, I knew I had got into GSA and that’s all I needed – I’m really excited to start in September. I’m very happy with an A* in my EPQ too!”
Charlie Jenkins, Head at Shebbear College, said “Congratulations to our U6th who have all worked so hard to achieve these results. With courses ranging from Astrophysics to Acting and Liberal Arts to Landscape Architecture, this year group really embodies the Shebbearian spirit! They have a diverse range of interests and talents, and it is fantastic to see that they will be fulfilling their ambitions, whether that be at university, a gap year or a career.
Thank you also to the teachers who have supported our pupils with such care and expertise over their Sixth Form years. As a small school, we get to know each individual incredibly well and it is so rewarding to see them going off to the next stage of their educational journey.”

Once again, Denstone College are celebrating with their pupils today on receipt of impressive A-Level grades. With 13 children sweeping straight A grades and over 92% already accepted into their chosen Universities.
Head, Lotte Tulloch, is delighted with the performance of all the pupils and is looking forward to hearing the success stories of the children as they move on to higher education, degree apprenticeships or the world of work.
These results have not happened accidentally and Lotte is full of praise for the young people who have worked so hard through years of disruption but also to her remarkable teaching staff who have helped teach, mentor, coach and tutor their charges to success.
However, at Denstone College, colleagues and parents are reminded that it is not always the ‘A grade’ student who has achieved the most and they seek to celebrate those children who have made significant progress in other areas and those children for whom the ‘value added’ is greatest.
Head, Lotte Tulloch, says “Today we send into the world fine young men and women who have not just a string of excellent A-Level grades – for that would be hollow honours indeed – but young men and women of good character and strong soul.”

Frensham Heights
Frensham Heights Students Soar to New Heights with Stunning A-Level Results
This year’s A-Level results are nothing short of brilliant and the school is immensely proud of their Sixth Form leavers. The results, an amazing 48% A*-A, 75% A*-B and 90% A*-C, are a testament to the students’ incredible resilience, hard work and passion. They have balanced academic rigour with extracurricular activities, friendships, and personal challenges and emerged triumphant.
The school is particularly delighted by the breadth of subjects in which students have excelled. From the sciences to the arts, from history to modern languages, they have demonstrated their ability to tackle any challenge. This reflects the school’s commitment to a broad curriculum that fosters curiosity and a love of learning.
While the school is understandably elated by these results, it recognises that exam grades are not the sole measure of success. The focus has always been on nurturing well-rounded individuals who are prepared to embrace the world.
“Today many of our parents have reinforced their choice of Frensham. One parent said they chose the school because they could see their children would love it, would be happy, but these grades have gone above and beyond all expectations. As my final year closes as Head, I am thrilled and proud of the students and staff. Frensham’s future is bright!” – Andrew Fisher, Head
In true Frensham style, students are heading off to a diverse array of destinations with the majority opting for higher education with nearly all students achieving their first choice. Among those opting to go straight into higher education; Ben has a place at Royal Holloway to read Law (while continuing to play at top level in golf and cricket), Louisa will dance her way through Musical Theatre & Dance, Phoebe will be continuing with Graphic Design at Nottingham Trent and Morley will be studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Cornell University in the US (where he will expand on his UK representative rowing career).
Earlier in the academic year, Frensham Heights had another reason to celebrate when their team won third place in the CyberCenturion Competition. Three of those team members will now be heading off to futures in the cybersecurity industry. George will be going to Southampton University and Dylan to Ravensbourne University, both to study Computer Science and Cybersecurity while Ivan will be heading straight to a leading tech company to start his career.
While the school is immensely proud of all the students and their results, the dedication and hard work that Ukrainian students Polina and Ivan gave while their homes were literally being pulled apart was extraordinary and humbling. Both students earned top marks and while Ivan is heading straight into the tech industry, Polina will be reading Politics and Economics at King’s College where we know she’ll strengthen her already determined resolve to change this world for the better.
These results showed that the school was able to inspire and support these students to achieve beyond their predicted grades, but fundamentally the strength of the relationships at Frensham has consistently seen students surpass their expectations.
“A record set of results – proving that a progressive education leads to academic prowess” – Charlie Bennett, Head of Sixth Form.
Frensham Heights Students Shine Brightly in LAMDA Drama Exams
Frensham Heights School in Rowledge, Farnham is delighted to announce outstanding results in the recent LAMDA drama examinations. An impressive 41 students sat the exams, with a phenomenal 34 achieving Distinction and 7 securing Merit.
Demonstrating exceptional talent and dedication, almost all students tackled their exams solo, with a small number of students excelling in duologue performances. The exams were no easy feat, with all Year 7 and above students taking Grade 3 and higher. Notably, one student achieved a remarkable Distinction in the challenging Grade 8 exam.
These exceptional results are a testament to the hard work and commitment of both the students and their dedicated drama teachers. The school is immensely proud of the students’ achievements and their ability to showcase their dramatic flair on such a prestigious platform.
Frensham Heights LAMDA teacher Adam Jennings feels “This represents students finding their voice and the confidence to share it publicly. All students will build on these results, starting in September.”
Frensham Heights is committed to providing students with a rich and diverse curriculum, and drama plays a vital role in developing confidence, communication, and teamwork skills. These outstanding results reflect the school’s dedication to championing the performing and creative arts.

Downside School
Fantastic set of A level results for Downside School
The examination results achieved by this year’s Upper Six pupils are a genuine cause for celebration.
The examination results achieved by this year’s Upper Six pupils are a genuine cause for celebration. At Downside we are committed to catering for each individual and are always keen that pupils pursue the subjects they are passionate about studying, rather than promoting subject choices solely with an eye on the likely outcome. The results achieved by our pupils this year validate this approach and are the best overall results achieved by Downside pupils who have sat the exams since the new A level specifications were introduced in 2016.
We would like to congratulate all of our pupils who worked incredibly hard to match or exceed their target grades. Indeed over 21% achieved straight A or A* passes in 3 or 4 subjects. Furthermore, in Latin and Greek, all achieved A* grades. Mention must also be made of the group of Lower Six pupils who submitted an EPQ this year, all of whom achieved an A* or A grade, with one pupil scoring full marks for a complete musical, including libretto, score and script – an extraordinary accomplishment.
We are delighted that almost all our pupils have secured a place at their first university of choice. As we have come to expect, the range of university and subject choice is broad, reflecting the wide spectrum of pathways for which a Downside education prepares pupils. This year, we offer particular congratulations to our Head Girl for securing a place at Leeds to study Medicine, having achieved 4 A* grades, 3 in natural sciences and the 4th in Classical Greek – this is a spectacular achievement. The Classics department is also celebrating the success of another of its pupils who, with straight A* grades, has a place to read Classics at Oxford University. Pupils have also secured places at the universities of Warwick, Bristol, Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Durham, Cardiff, London School of Economics, York, Bath, St Andrews, Edinburgh, Exeter and elsewhere to study courses including Modern Languages, Criminology, Arabic, Nursing, Real Estate, Sports Management, Physiotherapy, History of Art, Psychology, Computing Science, Archaeology and Anthropology. We are also delighted that one of this year’s cohort secured a prestigious degree apprenticeship place in Wealth Management at UBS.
Head, Andrew Hobbs, said, “It is so rewarding to see our pupils moving on to the next stage of their education or career. The CEOs of both UCAS and Universities UK this week have stated how important it is that pupils choose degree courses in subjects for which they have a passion, and reading the personal statements of this year’s cohort, it is clear that our pupils have done just this. We congratulate them all and wish them every success in their next steps. They have all left an incredible mark on Downside and we look forward to hearing their news as they continue on their individual journeys. A final word of thanks must, of course, go to the teachers and tutors who have worked so hard to ensure that our pupils were able to achieve their full potential in this year’s examinations.”

West Buckland School
West Buckland Sixth Formers delighted with results!
West Buckland’s Sixth Form students achieved over 40% A* or A grades and nearly a 100% pass rate, with most securing their university choices.
West Buckland’s Sixth Form students celebrate today with over 40% of examinations graded at A* or A and almost 100% pass rate. For those who applied to university, the majority have secured their firm or insurance choice. We are rightly proud of all our students right across the grade range, some of whom found academic studies quite challenging, but have flourished with the help of the school’s first-class and personalised academic and pastoral support.
Phillip Stapleton, Head of West Buckland School said: “I am delighted for all the students who have achieved so well today.
In recognising that we are never defined by a set of grades, West Buckland has always set out to focus on who they become as individuals and this group of students have grown into amazing young people. They reflect the character values which have become central to the school’s ethos, developing into honest, respectful, kind, resilient and curious adults. As they head out into the world of employment and higher education, they are more internationally and environmentally aware, prepared to innovate, and have learnt to tackle tough challenges from outdoor learning to sustainability and the performing arts. Good luck!
Congratulations to all the staff and pupils on the achievements that their hard work and inspiration deserves.”
Matt Brimson, Deputy Head Academic and Head of Sixth Form added:
“It has been a privilege to know the students in this cohort and be part of their journey. We wish them all the very best and their legacy in academic ambition, sporting success, richness of the creative arts, driving environmental change, and desire to serve each other is fondly remembered and ensures that they are fully prepared for whatever the future holds.”
We are delighted that Zac Johnson gained four A* grades at A-level in maths, further maths, physics and chemistry and will study Natural Sciences at St John’s College, Cambridge. Zac has achieved at this level throughout the Sixth Form and has been the top academic in his cohort. Jamie Magee achieved a place to study Biological Sciences at Sheffield with an impressive two A*s and one A grade, while Anna Walker, Archie Tapsell, Peter Savory, Somer Potter and Edie Maytum all achieved As and A*s across a range of subjects.
In 2022 we welcomed two Ukrainian students, displaced by war, into the school. Despite their challenging circumstances, away from their family, they have both thrived. Dasha Rizo, one achieved two grades at A* and one at A and will study International Business Management at the University of Bristol, while Vika Matviiuk gained four A grades, including the Extended Project, and a C; she will go on to study Mathematics. Both girls embodied the resilience that is the hallmark of a West Buckland education.
Students who made use of our world class Sixth Form boarding facility not only had unfettered access to our wide range of activities and learning facilities but made the most of being able to study in a tranquil and inclusive environment; they performed much better as a result. In addition to weekly boarding success, the school is delighted that so many of our international students secured top grades and university placements. In addition to exceptional performances from Dasha and Vika, other international students such as Angeline Wong and Kyle Geng, Charmain Chan and Iris Ng can be proud of their grades.
We should remember that our students lost significant time to Covid during their GCSE studies, but still obtained some outstanding individuals scores. In gaining A* or A grades across the board they now go on to study courses ranging from natural sciences at Cambridge to liberal arts at Durham and chemistry at Bath.
We are proud that many of our top grades are in A-levels such as Spanish, Maths, Further Maths, Geography, Art, and Physics reflecting the strong breadth of academic ability and interests of our students. In further maths and Spanish, 100% of candidates gained A*-A, while in geography it was 70%.
Our results in BTEC applied science and CTEC sport and physical activity are simply outstanding. Ninety percent of students taking these subjects achieved A*-A equivalent grades which is exceptional and underlines West Buckland’s innovative approach. Such courses follow a modular approach combined with coursework and are the right courses for many of our students, with resultant offers from competitive universities.
We are also very encouraged that some our students are increasingly interested in alternatives to university and are prepared to explore the opportunities provided by apprenticeships.
West Buckland School continues to develop its IB Careers-related Programme (IBCP) as an alternative curriculum, complementing the existing A-level programme. With a strong emphasis on equipping students for a rapidly evolving global landscape, its commitment to holistic education ensures that each IB student is ready to enter the workplace with the entrepreneurial spirit to thrive in a competitive labour market.

Over 92% of EPQ outcomes were A*-A, 88% of our Leith’s cookery qualifications were Distinction or Merit, and two double Distinctions were achieved in Ctec PE. This range of excellence reflects Truro School’s ongoing championing of diverse A-Level and Sixth Form pathways that is at the heart of our Sixth Form Diploma program, now in its third successful year.
Proud as we are of the overall outcomes, however, it is the individual journeys and destinations that matter most. Our Diploma program actively encourages and supports students to find and pursue their individual ambitions and enables us to celebrate excellence in its many different forms equally as a result.
We are delighted that the hard work of our students has resulted in places being secured at Oxbridge, four at Medical Schools, to McGill University in Canada, for Engineering, Law, Architecture, and also for Music Conservatoires, Archaeology, Sports, Geology, Software Engineering, Illustration, and directly into varied industries, including training as a pilot or as business leaders through leading apprenticeship programs.
We are proud that once again over 90% of our students have secured or reached destinations of choice within less than a day of results being published, and our dedicated staff remain on hand over the coming days for those seeking ongoing advice and support.
Head of Truro School, Andy Johnson, expressed his immense pride in the achievements of this year’s cohort, stating: “I am incredibly proud of this year group. They are a real credit to both the school and themselves. Their ambition, dedication, and courage have led to these outstanding outcomes. Our goal at Sixth Form is to equip and empower students for their futures, and today’s results have done just that. We wish them all the best as they embark on their exciting new journeys.”
The entire school community celebrates these exceptional achievements, confident that Truro School Sixth Formers are once again well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities ahead.

RHB is the only school in Bath to offer this choice of IB or A Level pathway at Sixth Form.
The spirit and individuality of RHB students is demonstrated perfectly by the range of destinations and variety of the subjects they are going on to study. In September, 5 RHB girls will take up their places at Medical School. These include, Eloisa, who has secured a place at Oxford having achieved 3 A* grades, with an additional A* for her fascinating EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) and Jess, who studied the IB diploma and achieved the maximum score of 45 points a feat achieved by only 0.3% of IB students world-wide. As always, I am so proud of the way they have worked hard, with the support of family and teachers, to achieve such great results and secure such great post-school options. But these have done so while still engaging so committedly and successfully in all the other areas of education offered to them while at Wells, including in Music, Sport, Drama, Outdoor Learning and so much more – and that’s been wonderful to see. I am delighted that they leave us as well-rounded, successful and aspiring young people and wish them all the very best for the future.”

As a non-selective school, Sidcot is particularly proud that over a third of A Level grades were A* and A, 57% were A*-B, and 79% were A* to C.
100% of BTEC students passed, with 33% achieving a Distinction/Merit or above and 89% of results graded above a Merit/Pass.
The A Level and BTEC students have secured places at various universities, specialist schools, and apprenticeships. Their unique interests and talents shine through in the results they have received today and in the diverse destinations they are pursuing next.
These include:

Jess commented on her fantastic results, “Warwick has always been my first choice university, so I’m incredibly pleased with my results. I am going to be studying an integrated Masters in Chemistry, which I couldn’t have achieved without all the support from my subject teachers. I also would like to thank my tutor, Mr Parry, and my progression advisor, Mrs Pike, for all their amazing help throughout the process.”
Student Head of School Jamie received exceptional results of A*, A*, and B and has accepted a place at the University of Cambridge to study History and Politics.
Reflecting on his achievement, Jamie said, “I am thrilled to have achieved the results I needed today to accept my dream offer to study History and Politics at the University of Cambridge. I’m incredibly grateful to all the staff who have taught me over the past 7 years and have helped me get to this stage. House Captain and Quaker Elder Elodie achieved 3 A’s and will study English at the University of York.

My time at Sidcot, specifically the Sixth Form, has boosted my confidence and shown me a clearer picture of the path I want to take. The Careers team and all my teachers have given me invaluable support, and the many offered extracurricular activities like the choirs and Office Holder positions not only gave me a break from academic responsibilities but also helped me see what I’d like to continue further at university.”
Todi, a boarding student from Mongolia achieved 3 A’s and will study Economics and Finance at Queen Mary University of London.
Todi commented, “I am very pleased with my A Level results having achieved the grades needed for my first choice university. It was not an easy journey, but I am so proud of what I have achieved. Commenting on the results, James Jones, Head, said, “We are very proud of our students who, today, have received their A Level and BTEC grades, as well as those who received their International Baccalaureate results in July. Their achievements are testament to their hard work over the last two years. They have achieved a high level of success in their public examinations and will follow previous generations of Sidcot students by attending some of the top universities here in the UK and abroad.
Our students’ excellent results will be a foundation for further success in helping them fulfil their ambitions. As important in this journey will be the many other qualities they have developed throughout their time at Sidcot. We are immensely proud of the soft skills our Upper Sixth cohort have developed throughout their time at School; their interpersonal skills, ambition, resilience and strong sense of values will ensure they are ready for university and broader life in the twenty-first century. Brentwood School
Brentwood School’s Sixth Form students, equipped with excellent academic achievements, a formative foundation of enduring values, and a string of co-curricular successes, are ready to embrace the next chapter of their lives.
Today’s impressive A Level and BTEC results follow swiftly on the heels of the school being shortlisted by the Times Educational Supplement for their Independent School of the Year award and record-breaking International Baccalaureate Diploma achievements, which saw Brentwood return an average of 38.3 points (roughly equivalent to A*AA at A Level), confirming its position among the Top Ten IB schools in the UK. Reflecting the global, outward-facing spirit of the IB Diploma, no fewer than seventeen students are heading overseas for their university education, spanning the Far East, Europe and the USA. Among these success stories, Uliana Zinchenko, who came to the UK on the Ukrainian Family Scheme following the Russian invasion of Ukraine and was awarded a fully-funded place at Brentwood, attained the top IB grade of 7 in English Language and Literature and 6 in Economics and Global Politics. She has been accepted to UCL to read Economics and Business with East European Studies.

Five achieved the equivalent of A*A*A* at A Level, ten the equivalent of A*A*A and a further eleven the equivalent of A*AA, all of which explains the fact that every single BTEC student is heading off to their first choice destination. Our five BTEC Sport students will continue their studies at the universities of Durham, Birmingham, Loughborough, Hertfordshire and Exeter, while of the twenty-six who studied BTEC Business, seventeen secured university places – seven to Exeter – on courses ranging from Accounting & Finance to Criminology to Marketing. This figure has doubled since last year. 82% of pupils achieved at least one grade above expected in at least one A-Level, which reflects the outstanding progress made by these students during their time at Farlington Sixth Form.
“I am immensely proud of our students’ achievements this year,” says Headmaster James Passam. “They have worked with diligence over the past two years and are now well poised for the next stage of their lives. Not only are they rightly celebrating their exam results, but many have achieved personal successes in other spheres, such as music, drama, public speaking, sport and art.”
Furthermore, 85% of Farlington students have today secured a place at their first choice of university. I am delighted by how well this cohort has performed throughout the two years, and I look forward to following their future progress.”
Students and staff celebrated together at Farlington this morning, as excited pupils arrived to find out their A-Level results. “Farlington Sixth Form is a close-knit group, and the dedication of the teachers doesn’t go unnoticed,” said Amélie, who joined Farlington in Year 12 and will now read Psychology at the University of Southampton. “You can tell that the staff really care; they’re always rooting for us!” Lily, who has been at Farlington since Year 9 and will read Sport and Exercise Science at

Remarkable Academic Results at DLD College London
DLD College London is celebrating the outstanding achievements of its students today, as they secure exceptional A Level and BTEC results.
The triumphant cohort obtained their remarkable grades from the multi-award-winning independent school, based on Westminster Bridge Road.
Commenting on this year’s results, Irfan Latif, Principal at DLD College London said: “It is fantastic to celebrate the achievements of our students one last time before they progress onto some of the top universities in the UK, Europe, and the US. The last few years have seen a move nationally to see results back to 2019 levels, after the pandemic years; whilst we are seeing the effects of this, I am pleased that we have not only matched those levels but increased our A* attainment rate! It is a testament to our student’s hard work, the excellent staff we have and the diversity of thought and skill of our students.
“Our BTEC students produced some of the best results in the school’s history with, like A-level, increased attainment at the top end and not one single BTEC student (certificate or diploma) achieving lower than a Merit (equivalent to a C grade). They have gone on to secure coveted places at the likes of City, University of London, the University of Birmingham and The University of Miami, to name but a few.”
A level subject successes included Graphics where an incredible 71% of students achieved grades A*-A and Photography where 63% achieved grades A*-A.

Sherborne’s Upper Sixth Form celebrate outstanding examination results
Sherborne’s Upper Sixth Form leavers have achieved an outstanding set of public examination results. One fifth of their A levels were graded A* (compared to 9% nationally) with 43% being awarded A* and A grades (27% nationally).
A quarter of the boys achieved straight A* and A grades including Ted H, Hector K and Bertie T, each of whom secured 4 A*s; Toby B, Joey L and Max S (all A*A*A*A); Bruno A-N, Andy C, Leo L and Tom C (all A*A*AA); and Mike S, Oliver L, Lucas P and Otis S (A*A*A*). The BTEC results were again exceptional with 86% Distinction*/Distinction (with Distinction* being equivalent to an A* at A level and Distinction to an A grade).
Thanks to these excellent results, the vast majority of Sherborne’s leavers secured their chosen university places. Destinations include high-tariff UK institutions such as Bath, Bristol, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Imperial, Manchester, Newcastle, Oxford, Southampton and UCL. Others have secured places at top overseas institutions including McGill, Montréal, Canada; the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA; and IE Business School, Madrid.
The degrees for which they will be studying reflect their wide-ranging academic interests, ranging from Medicine, Veterinary Science, Architecture and Law to Natural Sciences, Engineering, Languages, History, Business, Geography, Music, Economics, Psychology, Computer Science, Horology and Yacht Design.
Commenting upon the results, Headmaster Dr Dominic Luckett said: ‘I am so pleased that this year’s leavers have achieved such conspicuous academic success. We are not a highly selective school and nor, unlike many schools, do we ever require boys to leave us after GCSEs. Our commitment to a broad and balanced education, meanwhile, means that they commit much of their time to sporting, musical and other co-curricular activity, much of it at an elite level. For one fifth of their A level results to be graded A* is, therefore, an absolutely outstanding achievement and one likely to be reflected in an exceptionally high value-added score when this information is published early next term. I could not be prouder of this exceptional group of intelligent, talented, conscientious and, above all, kind young men. I am grateful to them for the huge contributions that they have individually and collectively made to the School and wish them every happiness and success as they move on to the next stages of their lives’.
In addition to praising the boys upon their achievements, Sherborne extends its thanks to all those who taught and looked after the boys during their time at Sherborne as well as their warm congratulations to pupils at neighbouring Sherborne Girls upon securing an equally impressive set of results.

ECA
This A-level results week, leading electrotechnical and engineering services association ECA is highlighting the importance of electrical apprenticeships in the move to low carbon technologies and net zero.
ECA is putting the need for more electrical apprentices firmly at the centre of the new government’s agenda. This week, the body launched the Electrical Skills Index – a dataset analysing how many people in England are starting classroom-based courses compared to apprenticeships – to highlight the areas of the country facing a shocking shortage of electrical skills.
The Electrical Skills Index shows constituency by constituency how newly elected MPs in England can champion electrical apprenticeships in their area.
A career in electrical engineering, design or installation can open a whole world of opportunities, and it all starts with an apprenticeship.
ECA’s own Technical Director, and former President, Mike Smith began his electrotechnical career aged 15.
“Undertaking an electrical apprenticeship was the best decision I ever made,” he said. “It gave me the opportunity to learn about electrical theory and the practical elements of how to install various cabling methods, containment, switchgear and electronics.”
“Far from restricting career choices, undertaking an apprenticeship has opened so many doors for me and allowed me to develop as I wanted, at a pace that suited me.”
ECA Edmundson apprentice of the Year 2023 Adam Allen also decided to take the leap and launch his career with an apprenticeship.
He said, “The electrical industry is always advancing quickly – especially in the low carbon technology sector – so there are so many paths you can choose once you become qualified. I have always maintained that choosing a career in the electrical industry was the best decision I could have made.
“Because the industry is so expansive, there will certainly be a rewarding career path for you too – you just have to reach for it.”
The Electrical Careers website, is the industry approved portal for finding routes into electrical apprenticeships.

King’s Ely
King’s Ely students’ excellent A-Level results
King’s Ely students are celebrating a superb set of A-Level results today (August 15th), with almost half of all grades achieved being A*-A.
The vast majority of our 95-strong Year 13 cohort have once again secured places at their first-choice universities and institutions, not just in the UK, but across the globe.
This year, a fifth of A-Level results achieved at King’s Ely Sixth Form are the top A* grade, almost half of grades are A*-A, and three-quarters of results are grade A*-B. The overall pass rate is 100%.
These fantastic results not only reflect our students’ hard work and determination, but also their teachers’ and mentors’ expertise and commitment for them to succeed. As a marker of their all-round, enriched education, King’s Ely pupils are going on to study subjects as diverse as Medicine to Music, and Film Production to Finance.
Mr Jonathan Shaw, Head of King’s Ely Senior, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the A-Level results of our Year 13 pupils; they should feel extremely proud of their outstanding grades. Many individuals have exceeded their own expectations and will be particularly pleased with their results. However, as well as achieving some fabulous grades, they leave King’s Ely as extremely well-rounded individuals with the character and confidence to make a difference in whatever path they choose. I would like to offer my congratulations to both our Year 13 pupils for their hard work and determination, as well as our teachers for their teaching and guidance. I hope that families will be able to celebrate this important milestone. As a cohort, this year group has contributed in so many positive ways to school life and they will certainly be missed.”
All four King’s Ely students holding Oxbridge offers achieved the top grades to take up their places this year – Lily McCallum to study Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge; Kit Attwater to study Music at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge; Samuel Trueman to study Music at Queens’ College, Cambridge; and Elliot Dickson to study History at St Hugh’s College, Oxford.
This year, twenty-four students achieved all A*-A grades, and forty-eight pupils earned all A*-B grades. Popular university destinations include Bath, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, London, York, and Newcastle. Our Year 13 leavers are studying a fascinating and vast array of degrees and courses – as ever, subjects in STEM, Humanities, Languages, and the Arts are strong. Four pupils are going on to study Medicine this year.
One of our budding Medics is Sydney Smith, who secured her first-choice place at Cardiff University. Sydney has been at King’s Ely since joining Nursery in 2008! She said: “I have wanted to study Medicine for several years now, and it was a huge relief this morning to see that I had achieved the grades I needed. I have been at King’s my entire life, so it feels surreal and sad to be leaving. It is an amazing school. Everyone is so supportive of each other, and I have been able to do so much alongside my studies, such as Sport, Music, Ely Scheme, and lots of different trips.”
Samuel Trueman achieved the grades he needed to be Organ Scholar at Queens’ College, Cambridge. Samuel joined King’s Ely Senior in Year 9 from King’s College School, Cambridge. He said: “I am so pleased with my results, and very relieved. I feel like all the hard work has paid off! The teaching at King’s really is fantastic. The class sizes are small, and everyone is known as an individual, which I feel makes the school community at King’s unique. The Music and Drama Departments are also exceptional.”
Sophie Haydn-Slater is heading to her first choice too – Oxford Brookes University to study International Hospitality and Hotel Management. Sophie, who joined King’s Ely Prep in Year 7, said: “The dream career for me is event management for a large hotel chain overseas or on a super yacht – basically a career that will allow me to travel. I have loved my time at King’s. It is an incredible place to be, and you must make the most of every opportunity here. I feel that I have done exactly that, from football to drama productions, I am leaving on such a high.”
Thomas Kirkpatrick will be studying Horology (the art of making clocks and watches) at Birmingham City University after achieving the grades he needed. Thomas, who joined King’s Ely Prep in Year 5, said: “When my grandfather passed away, he left me his Rolex watch. I was fascinated by how it worked, and this is what sparked my interest in horology. It is a very niche degree, but all my teachers have been so supportive, encouraging me to pursue what really interests me.”
As well as offering almost thirty different A-Level courses, King’s Ely also enables pupils to study vocational Level 3 Diploma qualifications in Business Studies, and Food and Nutrition. This year, 86% of students achieved at least a Distinction, a third of which were a Starred Distinction. From September 2024, King’s Ely will also be offering the Extended Certificate in Sport. These qualifications are equivalent to one A-Level, and they are taken alongside A-Levels.
This year, twenty-seven students also completed Extended Project Qualifications (EPQs) in addition to their A-Level subjects, which are equivalent to 50% of an A-Level. More than 70% of students achieved an A*-A grade.
Mr John Attwater, Principal of King’s Ely, said: “Our students’ achievements today underline the great value of learning in a community where everyone is known well, their talents are valued, and each other’s success is paramount. This year group and their teachers have exemplified that spirit and thoroughly deserve their celebrations today. We look forward to staying in touch with them as Old Eleans and to seeing them flourish in their lives ahead. This year, A-Levels have been marked strictly to pre-COVID standards with no quarter given for any effects of the pandemic lockdowns on children’s educational journey. I am especially pleased that our results continue to climb even by this measure and are well above where they were in 2019, the benchmark; this demonstrates King’s Ely’s continuing presence as a first-rate academic Sixth Form alongside our well-known strengths in the arts and co-curriculum.”
