Bishop’s Stortford College Sixth Former, Bethany, secures a silver medal in Olympic Skeet Shooting at the Amir Grand Prix in Qatar.

Bishop’s Stortford College Year 13 (Upper Sixth) student, Bethany Norton, won silver in the Junior Ladies Olympic Skeet at the Amir Grand Prix – Lusail Shotgun Competition, held in Doha, Qatar from 13-21 February 2025.

In a competition which saw 250 athletes from over 34 countries from across the world compete, including 12 Olympic champions, Bethany competed in the Under 21 Junior Ladies Olympic Skeet division.

The skeet competition involves shooting five rounds of 25 on five fields to give a final qualification score out of 125. The best six shooters qualify for the final round, competing for the three medal positions.

Having scored 70/75 on day one of the competition, Bethany went into the second-round top of the leaderboard in the Junior Women’s division, and second in the Senior Women’s division. With her score on the second day of the competition taking her total to 110/125, Bethany qualified for the final in second place.

A score of 48/60 in the final secured Bethany the Junior Ladies silver medal and prize money, exceeding her bronze medal finish in the same competition this time last year.

Having taken time off from training over the winter following a busy season last year where Bethany joined the Team GB Senior Ladies team in the Cairo World Cup, Lonato World Cup, and European Championships, this was Bethany’s first competition of 2025.

As of the end of 2024, Bethany is ranked 23rd in Europe and 42nd in the world for Olympic Skeet Shooting and is the youngest athlete within the top 60 of both the European and world rankings.

Bethany plans to take time off from training and competing to focus on her A Levels, before spending the summer in Europe competing in the Italian Grand Prix’s and European Championships.

The College would like to extend its congratulations to Bethany and wishes her the best for her upcoming summer competitions.
