Leweston School has enjoyed a phenomenal Spring Term of sport, with exceptional achievements across hockey, rugby, netball, cross country, swimming, pentathlon, and fencing.
Leweston students have demonstrated outstanding commitment, talent, and teamwork, bringing home regional and national accolades.
Hockey
The school is celebrating an outstanding term of hockey success, with teams across multiple age groups achieving remarkable results at both county and national levels. From tournament victories to historic firsts, this has been a season to remember:
- U13 – Finalists at the ISA National Tournament.
- U14 – Winners of the Dorset T3 Hockey Tournament.
- U15 – Runners-up in the Dorset U16 T3 Tournament.
- U18 – Winners of the Dorset U18 T3 Tournament.
In a historic achievement for the school, all senior teams have progressed to the regional finals next term – the first time in Leweston’s history that this has been accomplished. This milestone is a testament to the hard work and dedication of both players and coaching staff.
This term also marked a special moment for Ben H and Ollie P (Year 13), who played their final game for Leweston with a commanding victory over their opponents. As members of Leweston’s first-ever cohort of boys when the school transitioned to co-education in 2018, Ben and Ollie have played a significant role in shaping boys’ sport at Leweston. Their leadership, commitment, and passion for the sport have paved the way for future generations of players.
With an incredible season behind them, Leweston’s hockey teams now set their sights on the upcoming regional finals next term, where they will compete against the best schools in the region.
Rugby and Netball
Both rugby and netball teams have delivered standout performances, from tournament victories to record participation.
Leweston’s rugby teams have enjoyed an impressive season, achieving notable results across multiple competitions:
- U15 Rugby 7s – 3rd place at the highly competitive Dorset Schools Rugby Competition, showcasing determination and resilience against strong opposition.
- U18 ISA Rugby 7s – Bowl Final Winners, marking a historic moment as Leweston’s first-ever entry into the competition. The squad rose to the occasion, delivering outstanding performances throughout the tournament.
These results highlight the rapid growth of rugby at Leweston and reflect the school’s commitment to developing strong, competitive teams at all levels.
Netball has reached new heights this term, with the sport experiencing its most successful season in recent years:
- Over 160 pupils have played regular netball fixtures, demonstrating the sport’s growing popularity and strength within the school.
- The 1st VII enjoyed a dominant season, finishing with an impressive 75% win percentage, a testament to their skill and dedication.
- U12, U13, U14, and U15 teams all qualified for the County Finals
- A staggering 120 matches and tournaments have been played by Senior School pupils this term (U12 – U18), reflecting the high level of commitment from both players and coaches.
As the season draws to a close, Captain Nikita M and Vice-Captain Lucy B (Year 13) have played their final matches for the 1st VII. Their leadership, dedication, and passion for netball have left an enduring legacy, inspiring younger players to follow in their footsteps.
Cross Country and Pentathlon
From dominating relay events to securing medals in biathlon and fencing, Leweston athletes have once again demonstrated their talent, resilience, and commitment to excellence.
Leweston’s Cross Country teams have delivered an exceptional season of results, showcasing both individual and team triumphs:
- Bryanston Relays – Junior Girls Team Winners and Senior Girls Team Winners, with four individual silver medals in the boys’ competition.
- English Schools National Cross Country Cup – Leweston’s Junior Girls Team qualified for the prestigious national finals in Leeds, where they secured an impressive 15th-place finish in the country.
- National Prep Schools Championships – Bronze Medal for the Girls’ U13 Team, a fantastic achievement at this highly competitive event.
- ISA National Finals – 14 Leweston pupils qualified for the national event in Leicestershire, with Izzy K storming to victory in the Year 7 Girls’ Cross Country, becoming a national champion.
- English Schools National Finals – Four Leweston pupils earned the honour of representing Dorset Schools in the English Schools National Finals in West Sussex, a testament to their dedication and elite-level performance.
Meanwhile, Leweston’s Pentathlon squad continues to excel across fencing, shooting, and multi-sport events, achieving impressive results in both team and individual competitions:
- South West Youth Epee Competition at Millfield – Jay won the U18 title, Henry claimed the U12 title, and Jess secured a Silver medal in the U18 category.
- National Schools Shooting Finals – Nine Leweston pupils competed at the national event, with the Senior Team securing 4th place overall.
- National Schools Biathlon – Leweston’s athletes secured three Team Silver medals.
Leweston students have once again showcased their ability to compete and succeed at the highest levels. Their achievements this term highlight not only their individual talent but also the incredible depth of sporting excellence at the school.
