The webinar aims to deliver the top tips to schools on avoiding discrimination and being a more inclusive employer in the recruitment context.

Training topics will include:

  • What are the pitfalls to avoid when advertising the role?
  • What can and can’t be asked at the application and selection stages?
  • What’s the difference between positive action and positive discrimination, and when is it allowed?
  • How do you approach new information learned about an employee after recruitment?
  • How can schools deal with vexatious applicants?
  • How to deal with references and what are the risks surrounding them?

  • What the responsibilities and obligations are as an employer in the context of recruitment
  • How to manage risk of discrimination claims
  • Practical tips on framing job adverts and the requirements of the role in a way that helps avoid discrimination

Speakers: Robin Turnbull, Senior Associate, Anderson Strathern

Robin has been practising law now for over a decade and is probably the most experienced Employment Tribunal advocate at his level in Scotland with a success rate of over 90% for over 35 substantive hearings across Scotland in the Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal. He acts for both employers and employees and his practice covers contentious and non-contentious employment and equality law.
