Boarding House Induction for Visiting and Support Staff
Essential safeguarding awareness for those regularly working in or visiting the boarding environment.
Boarding houses are vibrant, fast-paced environments that serve as both living and learning spaces for young people. While permanent staff are fully trained in safeguarding policies and procedures, visiting professionals, support staff, and regular visitors may not always receive the same level of guidance.
This concise, practical webinar provides a clear induction into the key expectations, policies, and practices that support the safeguarding and wellbeing of boarders. It is ideal for anyone who regularly enters the boarding environment but is not part of the permanent boarding team.
Training topics will include:
- The Welcome: Signing in procedures, access to keys and keypads, and maintaining house security
- Open Door Policy: Understanding boundaries, supervision, and how to interact respectfully within the boarding setting
- Managing Disclosures: What to do if a young person shares a concern, and how to work collaboratively with the house team
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Have increased awareness of safeguarding responsibilities when visiting a boarding house
- Understand key policies and procedures that support the safety and wellbeing of boarders
- Be confident in how to act appropriately and safely within the boarding environment
- Recognise the importance of communication with the boarding team and how to respond to any safeguarding concerns
