How is the course assessed?

The Boarding Management Assignment Task

The assessment task for the Boarding Management module requires you to submit an extended piece of written work of 3500 words, with no more than 4,000 and no fewer than 3,000 based on a short research project which you have carried out in your school using appropriate methodology.  The focus of this study will be an area of the management of boarding.  You will need to reflect on the themes studied in the course, draw links between theory and practice and give evidence of background reading and research.

The task reflects the process of critical reflection on which the course is based, and provides an opportunity to:

  • investigate a particular aspect of your own boarding situation which you would like to improve.
  • identify the precise nature of the issue and investigate it as objectively as possible.
  • devise and recommend change and improvement.

There are two different pathways for this assignment, an essay or an action research report.  You can choose whichever best suits you

What are the course objectives?

  • To raise awareness of key issues of importance to boarding
  • To increase confidence and competence (especially for those with little boarding experience)
  • To bring boarding staff up to date with recent changes and developments
  • To provide opportunities to share experience and good practice with colleagues
  • To encourage reflection and critical evaluation of boarding practice and professional issues
  • To provide opportunities to study and develop expertise in specific areas of interest
  • To contribute towards school improvement and raising standards of pastoral care and welfare
  • To enhance a professional career path in boarding; to provide a certificate in recognition of successful completion of the courses.
