These Study Day sessions will be tutored by a variety of specialist contributors as well as experienced boarding staff. Many sessions will benefit from joint contributions and discussion between non-teaching and teaching staff participants. Students are also expected to read in and around the key topics and to carry out research.
The course will cover the following sessions:
How is the course assessed?
PATHWAY A Portfolio Assignment Task
This pathway is assessed by completion of a Portfolio of evidence (equivalent to around 3500 words), the contents of which are directly related to the course and which will demonstrate your learning and thinking. It will include evidence of reading, understanding, reflection and evaluation of your own work-place practice, through means of individual responses to a series of structured tasks.
PATHWAY B Reflective Essay Assignment Task
The assessment for this pathway will require you to compile a reflective essay of 3,500 words. You must not write more than 4,000 words or fewer than 3,000. This will be practice-based, giving evidence of reading, and reflection and evaluation of the course themes through an analysis of your day-to-day work. It may be appropriate to comment on more than one welfare issue at the same time. For example, commentary on the resolution of bullying or difficult behaviour is likely to draw as well on listening and communication skills, and support systems within the boarding house. It is also feasible to comment on issues, such as homesickness, which may not have been specifically addressed in the course sessions, but have been an area of relevance to your house/school.
