Course outline:

The aim of the session is to support delegates in understanding the current legal frameworks that apply to boarding schools and how this might be applied in practice.  The session will focus on unpacking the latest guidance and legal wisdom to support and assist schools to navigate an area of legal and practical complexity.

Training topics will include:

  • Core legal framework and guidance
  • Cass final report
  • Key issues including pastoral care and safeguarding
  • Single-sex spaces

Learning outcomes:

  • Greater understanding of relevant legislation and guidance
  • Building confidence in own practice
  • Be able to critically evaluate policies and arrangements in own setting

James is a Partner in the Education team at law firm, Veale Wasbrough Vizards, which works with schools and education providers nationwide in the private, public and third sectors.  With over 15 years’ experience in legal practice, James specialises in regulatory law and dispute resolution.  He works extensively with schools and charities on equality law compliance and best practice including, advisory support for senior leaders and managers, claims and complaints handling, policy and contract development, and training and guidance.
